Essential Duties
The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list.
As the Adapted PE Teacher, you will:
- Instruct students in the development of skills and knowledge that enables them to participate independently to the highest degree possible, based on assessment needs.
- Provide consultation and support services including in-service training to regular education and special education teachers, school personnel and peers concerning Adapted Physical
- Education needs and appropriate methods of adaptation for the student that will foster maximum independence and safety.
- Works with members of the IEP team (i.e. - speech, occupational, physical, orientation and mobility and vision specialists) to provide a functional and meaningful program.
- Create a program geared to the assessed needs, goals and objectives, functional levels and motivational levels of the student.
- Prepare and utilize equipment and materials for the development of skills as it is related to Adapted Physical Education (i.e. - beeper balls, sponge balls, etc).
- Conduct assessments which focus on both long term and short term needs of the student.

- Strong analytics and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure where none exists
- Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and roles within a complex organization
- A proven record of effectively planning, organizing and using resources to take action and achieve goals
- The ability to learn quickly and adapt as needed in a fast-paced environment
- Outstanding organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- A flexible, “can do” work ethic with a focus on identifying challenges and proactively working to find solutions while maintaining a bigger picture lens and focus on what can be delivered instead of what cannot be done
- Excellent data analysis skills and experience synthesizing data to drive action steps
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with senior level district staff and colleagues
- Effective written and verbal communication and the ability to clearly communicate complex, bureaucratic processes to a variety of audiences
- Ability to define and implement effective HR business practices
- Ability to work effectively in difficult situations that involve confidential and sensitive matters
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and GSuite (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms)
Minimum Qualifications
SFUSD requires all teachers to hold or be pursuing a valid California teaching credential and an English Learner or Bilingual Authorization. We welcome applications from teachers who have not yet received their credentials, and our Credentials Team is happy to work with each teacher who's accepted a position in SFUSD to apply for permits that allow them to teach while pursuing a credential.

SFUSD offers a competitive base starting salary depending on the size and grade level of your school as determined by the collective bargaining unit.

***NEW: Starting 7/1/2026: District pays 50% of Kaiser employee contribution for Employee+1 and Family (Employee Only status quo); non-Kaiser = pay difference vs Kaiser; eligible = 50%+ FTE and already receiving employee-only premium contribution
