Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a CPA
Verify your CPA license transfers cleanly
TN status requires your accounting credentials to meet U.S. specialty occupation standards. Confirm your provincial or Mexican CPA designation maps to a U.S.-recognized equivalent before applying, since officers may request credential equivalency documentation at entry.
Target firms with recent visa filing experience
Employers with recent visa filings for accounting roles already understand work visa sponsorship processes. Filter your search to these employers to avoid spending time educating hiring teams on visa sponsorship from scratch.
Get your offer letter to specify accounting duties precisely
CBP officers adjudicate TN eligibility at entry based on your offer letter. Letters that list only a job title get challenged. Yours should name specific duties like financial reporting, audit, or tax preparation tied directly to your CPA credentials.
Use Migrate Mate to find CPA roles with TN sponsorship
Sorting through employers who genuinely support TN filings for accounting roles takes time. Migrate Mate surfaces CPA jobs where employers are already familiar with TN sponsorship, so you're not starting that conversation from zero.
Prepare for Mexican TN applicants' consular timeline
Mexican citizens cannot use CBP land-border processing for TN visas and must schedule a consular interview. Build at least six to eight weeks into your start-date negotiation to account for appointment availability and processing time.
Align your renewal cycle with your employer's fiscal calendar
TN status is granted in three-year increments with unlimited renewals. Filing renewals during busy season creates risk if your employer's HR team is stretched. Lock in a renewal timeline at least 90 days before your current status expires.

Find CPA JobsCPA TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a CPA role actually qualify for TN visa status?
Yes. Accountants are explicitly listed as a qualifying USMCA profession for TN status. The role must require a bachelor's degree or higher in accounting or a related field, and you must hold the relevant credential. A general bookkeeping or data-entry position would not qualify, but a licensed CPA role in audit, tax, or financial reporting typically does.
How does TN compare to H-1B for CPA jobs?
TN is faster, simpler, and has no annual lottery. Canadian citizens can receive TN approval at a U.S. port of entry the same day, while H-1B requires a cap-subject lottery with results released months later. TN is also renewable indefinitely in three-year increments. The tradeoff is that TN does not support dual intent, so it's not a direct path to a green card the way H-1B can be.
Can I find CPA jobs where employers already understand TN sponsorship?
Yes, and targeting those employers specifically saves significant time in your search. Migrate Mate is built for this: it surfaces accounting and finance roles where employers have a track record of sponsoring TN visas, so you're not starting the education process with every recruiter you contact.
What documents do I need my employer to provide for TN processing?
Your employer needs to provide a detailed offer letter on company letterhead that describes your specific accounting duties, states your credentials are required for the role, confirms your start date, and identifies the position as full-time. Canadian citizens present this letter directly to CBP. Mexican citizens submit it as part of the consular visa application package to a U.S. embassy or consulate.
Can I switch CPA employers while on TN status?
Yes, but you cannot begin working for the new employer until new TN status is approved. Canadian citizens can apply at a port of entry with their new offer letter. Mexican citizens must obtain a new TN visa stamp through consular processing before starting work. There is no portability provision under TN the way there is under H-1B's AC21 rules, so timing your transition carefully matters.
