Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Tax Director
Verify your CPA credential qualifies
TN status for Tax Directors routes through the Accountant category, which requires a CPA license or an equivalent accounting degree. A Canadian CPA designation is accepted, but confirm your provincial body's reciprocity standing before your employer files paperwork.
Target employers with recent visa filings
Search Migrate Mate for companies with recent visa filings for senior tax roles. Employers experienced with visa sponsorship understand work visa processes and are far more likely to move quickly on your offer letter and support documentation.
Get your offer letter built for TN
Your offer letter is the core TN document. It must name the Accountant TN category, describe your Tax Director duties, state your start date, and confirm the position is temporary. Employers unfamiliar with TN often miss one of these requirements on the first draft.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN-ready roles
Search Migrate Mate to identify Tax Director openings at employers who already sponsor TN visas. Filtering by sponsorship history saves you from applying to companies that will decline after an offer, which is a common and avoidable delay.
Address Mexican TN timelines early
Mexican citizens cannot self-petition at a port of entry and must schedule a consular interview in advance. Build at least six to eight weeks into your start date negotiation to account for appointment availability at a U.S. consulate in Mexico.
Prepare for CBP scrutiny on seniority
CBP officers sometimes question whether a Tax Director role is temporary and whether the duties map to the Accountant category. Bring your degree transcript, CPA certificate, and a detailed duty description that ties your tax work to accounting functions, not management alone.

Find Tax Director JobsTax Director TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Tax Director title qualify for a TN visa?
Yes, provided the role's core duties fall under accounting or tax advisory functions. TN classification uses the Accountant category, so your offer letter must describe work that is genuinely accounting-based, such as tax planning, compliance oversight, or financial reporting. Titles that lean toward general executive management without an accounting core can face pushback from CBP or a consular officer.
How does TN compare to H-1B for a Tax Director role?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and can be approved at a port of entry on the same day for Canadian citizens. H-1B requires an April lottery, a months-long filing process, and employer-side legal costs. For Tax Director candidates who qualify under the Accountant category, TN is a faster and more predictable path to starting work in the United States.
How can I find Tax Director jobs that sponsor TN visas?
Migrate Mate lets you search Tax Director openings filtered by employers with recent visa filings, so you can focus on companies already experienced with work visa sponsorship. Many employers are open to TN sponsorship but don't advertise it explicitly, and filtering by employer visa sponsorship activity is the most reliable way to identify them before applying.
Can a Canadian Tax Director get TN status at the border without a lawyer?
Yes. Canadian citizens can present their offer letter, degree credential, and CPA certificate directly to a CBP officer at a port of entry or a pre-clearance airport. The officer adjudicates on the spot. There is no required attorney involvement, though having a well-drafted offer letter that correctly names the TN category and describes qualifying duties significantly reduces the chance of a secondary inspection.
What happens to my TN status if I change Tax Director roles or employers?
TN status is employer-specific, so switching companies requires a new TN filing tied to your new employer's offer letter. Canadian citizens can handle this at a port of entry or by mail through USCIS. Mexican citizens need a new consular appointment. You should not start work for the new employer until your new TN is approved, even if your current TN has time remaining.
