Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Project Accountant
Match your credentials to TN requirements
TN visa sponsorship for Project Accountants requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. If your degree title differs, gather course transcripts showing accounting coursework so the employer's attorney and CBP can confirm equivalency.
Target employers with active capital programs
Construction firms, engineering consultancies, and real estate developers running multi-year capital projects hire Project Accountants most consistently. These employers understand cost-control staffing cycles and are more accustomed to sponsoring TN professionals than general corporate finance teams.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN-sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify employers who have actively filed TN visa paperwork for accounting roles. Filtering by sponsorship history narrows your list to companies already familiar with the process, cutting the time you spend educating hiring managers.
Request a detailed offer letter before filing
CBP officers review your offer letter at the port of entry. It must specify your job title as Project Accountant, describe duties tied to accounting functions, state your employer's full legal name, and confirm the employment start date and duration.
Clarify TN renewal timelines with your employer
TN status is granted in up to three-year increments with no cap on renewals for Canadians. Confirm with your employer that they'll initiate renewal paperwork at least 60 days before your current TN period ends to avoid a gap in authorized work status.
Understand Mexican TN processing differences
Mexican professionals cannot apply for TN status at a land port of entry the same way Canadians can. You must apply at a U.S. consulate in Mexico and obtain a TN visa stamp, which adds consular appointment lead time to your timeline.
Project Accountant TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Project Accountant role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. Project Accountant falls under the Accountant occupational category listed in the USMCA TN treaty. Your duties must involve accounting functions such as cost analysis, budget tracking, or financial reporting for projects. Roles that are primarily administrative or managerial without core accounting duties may not qualify, so your offer letter should clearly describe accounting-specific responsibilities.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Project Accountant positions?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and can often be approved the same day at a port of entry. H-1B visa requires entering a randomized lottery with roughly a 20 to 25 percent selection rate and a wait of many months before work authorization begins. For accountants with Canadian or Mexican citizenship, TN is a faster and more predictable path to employment.
Where can I find Project Accountant jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals searching for roles where employers are already open to TN sponsorship. General job platforms don't filter by visa sponsorship history, which means you often waste time on applications where TN sponsorship was never a real option. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with a track record of filing for TN professionals.
What documents does a Canadian Project Accountant need at the U.S. border for TN?
You need a signed offer letter from your U.S. employer describing your Project Accountant duties, proof of Canadian citizenship such as a passport, and evidence of your accounting credentials, typically a degree transcript or diploma. CBP may also ask for a professional resume. Having all documents organized and readily accessible reduces processing time at the port of entry significantly.
Can a Project Accountant on TN status work for multiple employers or switch jobs?
TN status is employer-specific. If you change employers, you need a new TN authorization tied to the new employer before your start date. Canadians can apply for a new TN at a port of entry, while Mexican professionals must return to a U.S. consulate. Working for a second employer simultaneously requires separate TN authorization for each position, filed independently through USCIS.
