Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Tax Manager
Align your credentials to the Accountant category
TN visa status for Tax Managers is approved under the Accountant category, so your degree must be in accounting, finance, or a closely related field. A general business degree without accounting coursework can trigger a denial at the port of entry.
Target employers with dedicated tax departments
Large corporations, Big Four firms, and regional CPA firms routinely support TN filings for Tax Managers because they have in-house immigration counsel familiar with the process. Smaller companies without HR infrastructure often stall at the offer stage.
Search TN-sponsored Tax Manager roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Tax Manager openings by TN visa sponsorship. The platform surfaces employers with active sponsorship history, so you spend less time screening roles where sponsorship is unclear or unlikely.
Negotiate the employer support letter before signing
Your TN petition lives or dies on the employer support letter, which must specify your title, duties, and the Accountant category. Get the draft letter reviewed before you resign from your current position or set a start date.
Prepare for tax-specific credential scrutiny at the border
CBP officers sometimes question whether a Tax Manager role genuinely requires a degree-level accountant. Bring documentation connecting your CPA license or degree directly to your specific job duties, not just your job title.
Understand the Mexican TN cap before accepting an offer
Mexican citizens have an annual TN allocation of 5,500 visas across all categories. Confirm current cap availability with USCIS before timing your application, since exhaustion mid-year forces you to wait for the next fiscal year. Your employer's support letter should be presented at a U.S. consulate during your visa interview.
Tax Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Tax Manager role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, Tax Manager positions qualify under the TN Accountant category, provided your role centers on professional accounting, tax compliance, or tax advisory functions requiring a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. Roles that are primarily managerial without substantial technical accounting duties can face scrutiny at the port of entry or consulate.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Tax Manager roles?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and can be approved at a port of entry the same day for Canadian citizens. H-1B visa requires winning a lottery, waiting months for USCIS adjudication, and is capped at 85,000 annually. For Tax Managers who qualify under the Accountant category, TN is a faster and more predictable path to U.S. employment.
Where can I find Tax Manager jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for USMCA professionals and lets you search Tax Manager roles filtered by TN visa sponsorship. Most general job boards don't distinguish between visa types, so you end up cold-screening hundreds of postings where sponsorship is never offered.
Can a Canadian Tax Manager get TN status at the border without a consulate appointment?
Yes. Canadian citizens can present their employer support letter, degree credentials, and offer letter directly to a CBP officer at a port of entry or pre-clearance airport. Approval is typically granted on the spot. Mexican citizens must complete the process at a U.S. consulate and cannot use the border port-of-entry route.
How long does TN status last for a Tax Manager, and can it be renewed?
TN status is granted in three-year increments with no limit on renewals, as long as you maintain a valid job offer in a qualifying occupation. You can extend by filing with USCIS while in the U.S. or by traveling abroad and reapplying at a port of entry or consulate. There is no maximum stay under TN status.
