Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship in Head Of Engineering
Align your credentials to TN engineer categories
Your degree must be in engineering or a closely related field, not just computer science or business. If your title is Head of Engineering but your degree is in physics or applied mathematics, document how the discipline directly supports the role's technical scope.
Target employers with cross-border hiring infrastructure
Look for companies that already employ Canadian or Mexican engineers at senior levels. Firms with U.S.-Canada or U.S.-Mexico distributed teams are far more likely to have HR and legal processes in place for TN visa sponsorship without delays.
Get your offer letter drafted before border crossing
For Canadian applicants, your offer letter is your petition. It must name the TN category, describe your engineering duties at a leadership level, state the position is temporary, and include your start date. A vague or generic letter is the most common reason for border denials.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsorship-ready roles
Search Migrate Mate to identify Head of Engineering openings at employers already set up for TN visa sponsorship. Filtering by visa type upfront saves you from advancing through interview rounds with companies that can't support your status.
Clarify TN renewal expectations before accepting an offer
TN status is granted in up to three-year increments with no statutory limit on renewals, but each renewal requires continued qualifying employment. Confirm the employer understands this before signing, especially if the role involves equity milestones tied to multi-year vesting.
Prepare documentation for Mexican nationals applying at a consulate
Mexican professionals must apply at a U.S. consulate and bring a complete package including the employer support letter, your engineering degree, and evidence of professional experience. Consular officers assess TN eligibility independently, so the documentation standard is the same as a full visa application.
Head Of Engineering TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Head of Engineering role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, provided the role is grounded in engineering practice and your degree is in engineering or a directly related scientific field. The TN category covers engineers broadly, but a purely administrative or general management role with no technical engineering component may not qualify. Your employer's offer letter must clearly describe the engineering responsibilities you'll oversee and execute.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Head of Engineering positions?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and can be approved at the port of entry the same day for Canadian nationals. H-1B visa requires USCIS petition approval, is subject to an annual lottery, and has a multi-month processing timeline. For qualified Canadian and Mexican engineers, TN is faster and more predictable, though it does not confer dual intent, which matters if you're considering a green card path later.
Where can I find Head of Engineering jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. roles with TN visa sponsorship. Searching there lets you filter to employers already prepared to support TN status, so you're not discovering sponsorship gaps mid-process. General job boards don't filter by visa type, which makes it difficult to identify TN-ready employers without asking in every application.
Can I switch employers while on TN status as a Head of Engineering?
Yes, but your TN status is tied to your current employer and role. Before starting with a new company, that employer must support a new TN application. Canadian nationals can apply at the border or a port of entry with updated documentation. Mexican nationals must return to a U.S. consulate. There's no grace period built into TN status the way there is with H-1B, so timing the transition carefully matters.
What happens if my Head of Engineering title changes at my current employer?
If your role materially changes, including a significant shift in duties or a title change that moves outside the original TN engineering category, you should file for a new or amended TN. Minor title changes within the same engineering function are lower risk, but a shift toward a general management or product leadership role with reduced technical scope could raise questions at renewal. Document any changes with your employer as they happen.
