Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Engagement Specialist
Align your degree to the role description
TN visa approval depends on your credential matching the specific specialty field the Engagement Specialist role requires. If your degree is in a related but non-obvious field, request a formal equivalency letter from your university that maps your coursework to the employer's stated requirements.
Target employers experienced with visa sponsorship
Search Migrate Mate for employers with recent visa filings in communications or human capital roles. Employers experienced with visa sponsorship processes will typically move faster through TN sponsorship than those new to supporting work visas, since they're already familiar with employment-based visa requirements and documentation.
Get your offer letter to confirm specialty occupation language
The offer letter is your primary TN document. Ask your employer to explicitly state the academic field the role requires, not just the job title. CBP officers and consular officers both scrutinize whether Engagement Specialist duties qualify as a specialty occupation under USMCA Appendix 2.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN-ready Engagement Specialist roles
Filtering job postings by TN visa sponsorship history saves time you'd otherwise spend cold-emailing HR teams. Migrate Mate surfaces Engagement Specialist openings from employers with documented sponsorship patterns, so you're applying where the process is already understood.
Prepare for consular scrutiny if you hold a Mexican passport
Mexican nationals are subject to a TN annual cap and must process through a U.S. consulate, not at the border. Schedule your consular appointment as early as possible and bring documentation showing your employer's business need for the role, not just your own qualifications.
Negotiate employer-paid filing before signing your offer
USCIS does not prohibit employees from paying their own TN filing costs, but many employers absorb them as a hiring standard. Raise this during the offer stage, not after acceptance, to avoid ambiguity about who covers government fees if you need a status change or extension.
Engagement Specialist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Engagement Specialist role actually qualify for TN visa status?
It depends on how the role is defined. TN status requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation under USMCA, meaning it must normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific discipline such as communications, organizational psychology, or marketing. An Engagement Specialist role framed around general coordination without a degree requirement will not qualify. Roles tied to employee engagement strategy, digital community engagement, or client retention with a clear academic connection are far more defensible at the port of entry or consulate.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Engagement Specialist positions?
TN status offers a significant practical advantage for Canadian citizens: no lottery, no annual cap, and approvals granted at the port of entry or consulate, sometimes the same day. H-1B visa requires a lottery registration in March, a wait until October 1 at the earliest, and a per-petition filing fee your employer must pay. For Engagement Specialist roles where the specialty occupation case is strong, TN is faster and far less uncertain. Mexican nationals face a TN annual cap, but processing is still consular rather than lottery-based.
What documents do I need my employer to prepare for TN sponsorship?
Your employer needs to provide a detailed offer letter on company letterhead that states your job title, the specific specialty field the role requires, your start date, your salary, and that the position is temporary. For Canadian citizens applying at the border, this letter plus your credential documents are the full package. For Mexican nationals and those using USCIS to change status, your employer will also need to file Form I-129 with supporting business documentation.
Where can I find Engagement Specialist jobs that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. Rather than filtering through general job boards where TN sponsorship is rarely disclosed upfront, Migrate Mate shows Engagement Specialist roles from employers with documented TN and related visa filing activity. That means you spend less time on cold outreach and more time applying where sponsorship is already part of the employer's hiring process.
Can I switch employers while on TN status as an Engagement Specialist?
Yes, but your TN status is tied to your current employer. Before you can begin working for a new employer, that employer must either file a new I-129 with USCIS or you must apply for a new TN at a port of entry or U.S. consulate. You cannot simply transfer your TN status the way some other visa categories allow. Plan for a potential gap if you're changing jobs, and do not resign before your new TN authorization is confirmed.
