Job Summary/Basic Function:
Advances and protects Boise State’s institutional identity by creating, coordinating, implementing, and analyzing the performance of professional graphic design, photographic assets and art work for print and digital material; to provide consultation in graphic design; perform related work.
This position may have the opportunity to work hybrid environment where a mix of in-person work from a Boise State worksite and an alternative work location within the state of Idaho is utilized. Candidates must be able to work on-site as needed.

The Division of Extended Studies is on a mission to extend higher education beyond traditional boundaries. Our collaborative teams expand student access and improve student success with innovative programs that reach across our metropolitan area, Idaho, and beyond. We facilitate online education, community-based programs, concurrent enrollment at high schools, summer sessions, continuing education programs, and other lifelong learning options. Join us!
The Marketing and Communication (Marcom) team within the Boise State University Division of Extended Studies drives enrollment and brand awareness for online degree completion, professional development, and continuing education. We craft targeted marketing campaigns using data-driven storytelling to recruit adult, military, and remote learners.
Level Scope:
Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.
Essential Functions:
- Plans and leads large cross-departmental projects, including research, conceptualization, and execution.
- Must remain current in knowledge of technological advances in the field and be able to identify areas of use in the organization.
- Confer with clients to determine needs.
- Follow university branding requirements and policy.
- Collaborate with others to develop or refine designs.
- Design layout of art or product exhibits, displays, or promotional materials.
- Come up with unusual or clever ideas about a given topic or situation, or develop creative ways to solve a problem.
- Be familiar with common motion/animation-related formats and processes. Setting up files for proper export to support multimedia and animation projects.
- Apply university brand and visual design best practices principles to the development of print, digital, web, and social media assets.
- Process and edit photography to ensure images meet brand standards and represent the program partners.
- Digital Asset Management—Experience organizing, tagging, archiving, and maintaining large libraries of digital photos and videos. Catalogue files and maintain the image repository.
- Work with local vendors to coordinate print and marketing merchandise orders and delivery.
- Translate strategy to creative objectives; Develop layout and concept designs for marketing campaigns and program promotion. Provide initial estimates for development.
- Develop visuals and multimedia content for and support the maintenance of web content.
- Perform usability testing and quality assurance of elements used across all outputs. Ensure media accessibility standards are met.
- Create brand-aligned print, digital, web, and social media design assets.
- Logistical management of print and promotional merchandise.
- Work both autonomously and collaboratively with a small team to fit project needs.
- Maintain professional flexibility to accommodate rapidly changing processes, program information, and priorities.
- Solicit partner feedback when needed, and foster and build partner relations.
- May perform other duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles, including design software, to be involved in producing graphic art and visual materials for promotions, advertisements, films, packaging and informative and instructional material through a variety of media outlets.
- Photography Expertise, including a deep knowledge of digital photography principles, including composition, lighting (studio and natural), and camera operation (DSLR/Mirrorless).
- Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
- Ability to think creatively in developing, designing, or creating new applications, ideas, relationships, systems, or products, including artistic contributions.
- Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Must be able to work independently, make decisions, and problem solve.
- Knowledge of creative directions and design best practices; the print industry and mailing regulations; developing and implementing creative marketing plans.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, plus 2 years of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, plus 5 years of professional experience.
- 3 years of Photography and Photo editing experience.
- 2 years of experience in planning and conducting Marketing Photo Shoots.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary of $55,057.60/yr. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package, including (but not limited to):
12 paid holidays AND the University is closed between Christmas and New Year's (requires use of 3 vacation days)
Between 12-24 annual paid vacation days for full-time Professional and Classified staff depending on position type and years of service
10.76% University contribution to your ORP retirement fund (Professional and Faculty employees)
11.96% University contribution to your PERSI retirement fund (Classified employees)
