INTRODUCTION
Let’s face it, a company whose mission is human transformation better have some fresh thinking about the employer/employee relationship. We do. We can’t cram it all in here, but you’ll start noticing it from the first interview. Even our candidate experience is different. And when you get an offer from us (and accept it), you get way more than a paycheck. You get a personal BetterUp Coach, a development plan, a trained and coached manager, the most amazing team you’ve ever met (yes, each with their own personal BetterUp Coach), and most importantly, work that matters. This makes for a remarkably focused and fulfilling work experience. Frankly, it’s not for everyone. But for people with fire in their belly, it’s a game-changing, career-defining, soul-lifting move. Join us and we promise you the most intense and fulfilling years of your career, doing life-changing work in a fun, inventive, soulful culture. If that sounds exciting—and the job description below feels like a fit—we really should start talking.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
We are a hybrid company with a focus on in-person collaboration when necessary. Employees are expected to be available to work from one of our office hubs at least two days per week, or eight days per month. Our US hub locations include: Austin, TX; New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; and the Washington, DC metro area. If this is a role based in Europe, our Europe hub locations are London, UK and Amsterdam, NL. Please ensure you can realistically commit to this structure before applying.
As a Strategy & Operations Manager, Account Management you will join a team of Strategy & Business Operations Associates, who partner closely with the Chief of Staff to uncover data-driven insights and implement cross-functional initiatives to enable coaching at scale. In this specific role you will be focused on building a new go-to-market segment and approach that focuses on creating CxO engagement through peer connections and a consultative, solution-based sales experience. For success in the role it is critical that you are comfortable working alongside BetterUp’s executive team and board of directors to develop, drive, and report on the most pressing organizational initiatives that drive key business outcomes. You handle problem-solving with poise and attention to detail, ensuring that all functions of your business are operating efficiently.
What You’ll Do
Join the team already in motion to test out a new go to market (GTM) strategy:
- Drives account and key stakeholder research for the enterprise organizations in the segment
- Crafts all executive communications and deliverables (outside of formal proposal)
- Orchestrates internal cross-functional coordination, collaboration, and processes
- Manages engagement with the CxOs team at the prospect organization to ensure alignment
- Leads RFP responses as needed including strategy and coordination of response materials
- Accountable for pipeline generation within the new segment. For clarity, this does NOT mean the candidate is doing cold outreach etc, but the organizational metric that should move with a job well done is the pipeline we generate in the new GTM segment.
Strategy & Operations Associate (more broadly): Launch, implement and report on key projects to drive efficiency and scale:
- Independently develop thorough and complete analysis for each project
- Provide insights from project results which allow business partners to take effective action to improve our coaching platform
- Project manage multiple key business initiatives, at different stages, all at the same time
- Elevate cross-functional data-driven decision making
- Create tools and reports to elevate executive decision making
- Influence and build consensus around data insights and actionable next steps
- Collaborate with other functional leaders
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
If you have some or all of the following, please apply:
- 3+ years of strategy consulting, investment banking, private equity, or equivalent experience
- BA/BS degree - we’re more interested in what you learned and how you’ve applied it to your life than what you studied
- Strong interest in organizational behavior, positive psychology, coaching, or behavioral sciences - we geek out over this stuff, daily!
- Intellectual and analytical curiosity - initiative to dig into the “why” of various results.
- Strong experience with and comfort analyzing quantitative and qualitative data to derive specific, focused insights.
- Project management & execution skills, including attention to detail, commitment to consistently meeting timelines, operating from a sense of urgency, and an ability to prioritize across multiple projects and initiatives
- Scrappiness: Someone who gets excited about rolling up their sleeves and doing whatever it takes to deliver, in a way that you impress yourself. You do not hesitate to get involved, from the high-level, strategic work to the tactical (sometimes thankless) work. You have a bias towards action and the ability to translate objectives into concrete work plans.
- No ego teammate: We thrive in an environment of healthy and respectful collaboration that is fundamentally driven by the desire to succeed as a team.

Which companies sponsor visas for strategy operations managers in California?
Large technology and enterprise companies have the most consistent track record of H-1B sponsorship for strategy operations roles in California. Google, Meta, Apple, Salesforce, and Netflix in the Bay Area, along with healthcare systems like Kaiser Permanente and biotechnology firms in San Diego and South San Francisco, regularly file H-1B petitions for strategy and operations management positions. Consulting firms with California offices, including McKinsey and Accenture, also sponsor these roles.
Which visa types are most common for strategy operations manager roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for strategy operations managers in California, as the role typically requires at least a bachelor's degree in business, management, economics, or a related field, satisfying the specialty occupation standard. Candidates with exceptional track records may qualify for an O-1A. Australians holding an E-3 visa can also fill these roles, and some Canadian and Mexican nationals enter on TN visas under the management consultant or economist categories.
Which cities in California have the most strategy operations manager sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and the broader Bay Area account for the largest share of strategy operations manager sponsorship jobs in California, driven by the concentration of technology companies, venture-backed startups, and global enterprise headquarters. Los Angeles follows, particularly in media, entertainment, and tech-adjacent industries. San Diego has a growing presence tied to biotechnology and defense, while Sacramento hosts roles within state government contractors and healthcare organizations.
How to find strategy operations manager visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search strategy operations manager roles in California without sorting through companies that don't sponsor. The platform surfaces openings at technology, healthcare, and enterprise companies across the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and San Diego that have active H-1B or other sponsorship programs. Filtering by California and this role category on Migrate Mate reduces the time spent identifying which employers are actually open to sponsoring international candidates.
Are there any California-specific considerations for strategy operations managers seeking visa sponsorship?
California's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B positions are among the highest in the country, reflecting the state's elevated cost of living, particularly in the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Employers must certify on the Labor Condition Application that the offered wage meets or exceeds the applicable prevailing wage for the job location. Strategy operations managers at California-based companies also benefit from the state's concentration of cap-exempt research institutions, which are not subject to the annual H-1B lottery.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored strategy operations manager jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
