Which companies sponsor visas for mental health clinicians in Massachusetts?
Mass General Brigham, McLean Hospital, Boston Medical Center, and Fenway Health are among the Massachusetts employers with established records of sponsoring work visas for behavioral health staff. Federally Qualified Health Centers such as Community Health Center of Cape Cod and East Boston Neighborhood Health Center also sponsor regularly, as their federal funding structures often support the administrative costs of H-1B visa petitions for licensed clinicians.
Which visa types are most common for mental health clinician roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most common visa for mental health clinicians in Massachusetts, covering licensed clinical social workers, psychologists, and licensed mental health counselors when the role meets specialty occupation requirements. The J-1 visa is also used at teaching hospitals affiliated with Harvard, Boston University, and Tufts for postdoctoral clinical psychology fellows. TN visa status applies to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying psychology roles.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most mental health clinician sponsorship jobs?
Boston accounts for the largest share of sponsored mental health clinician positions, driven by its density of academic medical centers, community health centers, and specialty psychiatric facilities. Worcester is a secondary hub, with UMass Memorial Health and community mental health agencies actively hiring. Springfield and Lowell also see consistent demand, particularly at community health centers serving underserved and immigrant populations that often qualify for NHSC loan repayment alongside visa sponsorship.
How to find mental health clinician visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search mental health clinician roles in Massachusetts without sifting through positions that don't sponsor. The platform surfaces openings at health systems, community health centers, and behavioral health practices across Boston, Worcester, and beyond. It is particularly useful for identifying which employers are actively sponsoring rather than relying on job descriptions that may be outdated or vague about immigration support.
Are there any state-specific considerations for mental health clinician visa sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts requires independent licensure for clinical practice, so many sponsored roles are tied to candidates who already hold or are eligible to obtain a Massachusetts LICSW, licensed psychologist, or LMHC credential. Employers at Federally Qualified Health Centers may qualify for NHSC sponsorship, which can run alongside H-1B status. The state's competitive behavioral health hiring market means sponsoring employers often move faster on candidates with post-degree supervised hours already completed.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mental health clinician jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
