About Walden Community Services:
WCS offers intensive care coordination, wraparound family support and in-home therapy and stabilization for deaf and hard of hearing children, adults, and their families across Massachusetts.
Position Summary:
The In-Home Therapist (IHT), using the principles and guidelines set forth by the Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative, provides family therapy for the purpose of treating the youth’s behavioral health needs in the context of the family. The IHT will develop a treatment plan and goals, and work with a team consisting of a Therapeutic Training and Support (TT&S) professional as well as the youth and family to identify goals, supports, resources etc in order to promote and sustain treatment goals. The children and families that work with the Walden Community Services Program must have a deaf member.
The Intensive Care Coordinator (ICC), using the principles and guidelines set forth by the Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative, provides coordination of care to children with an emotional or behavioral health need on Mass Health and to their families. The ICC will also provide Care Coordination to families working with the Department of Children and Families to provide Family Support and Stabilization Services. The children and families that work with the Walden Community Services Program must have a deaf member.
Outpatient Therapist (OP), using evidence-based and culturally responsive clinical practices, provides individual, family, and/or group therapy to children, youth, adults, and families receiving services through Walden Community Services. The OP supports clients in addressing emotional, behavioral, and mental health concerns through ongoing assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic intervention.
SUPERVISOR: Clinical Director of Walden Community Services
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN
- Works with youth and family to determine medical necessity eligibility by completing required assessment tools.
- Works with the family, youth and TT&S to develop treatment plans and goals.
- Works from a strength based and family centered perspective.
- Works well independently and as part of a team.
- Works with the family to identify professional and natural supports.
- Develops a Care Plan Team with the family and the youth.
- Works from a strength based and family centered perspective.
- Works as a liaison with collateral agencies, schools, doctors etc.
- Works with Family Partner to develop documentation and goals with families.
- Collaborate with interpreters or provide direct ASL-fluent services as appropriate to ensure full communication access.
- Deliver services that are linguistically accessible and culturally responsive to Deaf and Hard of Hearing clients and families.
- May be required to drive clients and additional driving responsibilities as needed.
- Support families and youth in different community settings such as courthouse, schools, hospitals.
- Follow the Wraparound Model for ICC work as well as CBHI’s performance specifications for ICC and IHT roles.
OUTPATIENT THERAPIST
- Provide outpatient individual, family, and/or group psychotherapy to children, youth, and families in accordance with evidence-based and trauma-informed practices.
- Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments to identify strengths, needs, risks, and treatment priorities.
- Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans with measurable goals that are family-centered and clinically appropriate.
- Deliver therapeutic interventions that address emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs within the context of the youth’s family, culture, and community.
- Deliver services that are linguistically accessible and culturally responsive to Deaf and Hard of Hearing clients and families.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Deaf culture and Deaf-centered clinical approaches.
- Adapt clinical interventions to support language access, visual communication, and cultural identity.
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Complete all clinical documentation accurately, thoroughly, and in a timely manner in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Maintain compliance with CBHI, MassHealth, agency policies, and professional practice standards.
- Document progress notes, treatment plans, assessments, and discharge summaries in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality assurance, utilization review, and clinical supervision processes.
- Assess and monitor risk related to safety, mental health symptoms, and family functioning.
- Respond appropriately to clinical crises in accordance with agency policies and crisis protocols.
- Consult with supervisors and clinical leadership when concerns related to risk, safety, or ethical practice arise.
- Engage in ongoing supervision, training, and professional development.
- Maintain required licensure, certifications, and continuing education.
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and accountability in all clinical interactions.
- Contribute to a collaborative, supportive team environment.
- Support Walden Community Services’ mission and values related to Deaf-specialized behavioral health care.
- Participate in program meetings, training, and agency initiatives as assigned.
- Represent the program professionally in interactions with families, referral sources, and community partners.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Department Supervisor and/or Program Leader.

Requirements
- A Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling or another clinical related field
- Ability to be licensed at the Independent Practice Level in your discipline (LMHC, LICSW) preferred
- A minimum of conversational fluency in American Sign Language required, with native, or near-native ASL fluency preferred
- Bicultural competence and effective interpersonal and communication skills will be necessary to work collaboratively with the team
- Time flexibility with some availability during evening hours required
- Routine travel and in-home visits required
- Proficient Google Workspace and Microsoft Office skills
- Must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing
- Must maintain proper auto insurance coverage that meets all legal requirements and permits transporting clients as part of job duties
- ASL Classes may be required based on ASL fluency
