Responsibilities
The Pipeline Engineer will assist with the development of our next-gen game by building and improving digital content creation (DCC) tools and pipelines. You will be supporting a variety of departments; Cinematics, Modeling, Sound, Art, Programming and Production to name a few, and working in a variety of DCC applications and Flow Production Tracking.
The ideal candidate is a skilled programmer and team player with extensive experience in problem solving and working in DCC applications common to the game and visual effects industry. In addition, we are looking for someone who is passionate about tool development and feature enhancements to optimize workflows. The candidate must have a strong grasp of technical know-how combined with the artists’ perspective. Strong problem-solving skills are essential for this role.
We need someone who can work with each of the Directors, Leads and Producers within the Cinematic, Art, Sound, Engine and Tools departments to find opportunities for efficiency, and subsequently design and produce workflows and tools that streamline day to day work.
The Pipeline Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Help facilitate the studio’s integration of Flow Production Tracking for art production and reviews. This includes integrating Flow Production Tracking with DCC tools, syncing with JIRA and supporting efficient creative review pipelines.
- Bring a holistic approach to design and codebase cohesion for a wide variety of creative department’s supplemental DCC tools.
- Design and Implement USD workflows, tools and exporters for cross-departmental collaboration.
- Design, implement, maintain workflows and tools to transition source assets to optimized, shippable idTech assets.
- Improve iteration times by creating tools to reduce data integration friction.
- Improve data flows between DCC to DCC applications and DCC applications into idTech.
- Design intuitive UIs (QT) and workflows for DCC Artists.
- Write, maintain, and improve any documentation for the tools you and your team develop.
- Troubleshoot and prioritize content creation issues with tools and content creation workflow.
- Work with Artists, Animators and Programmers to create tools that aid/improve content creation workflow.
- Work with department Directors and Leads to organize and pioneer ongoing research into new software to facilitate more efficient content production.
- Develop, motivate, and mentor team members, creating opportunities for challenge and growth.
- Highly self-motivated, forward-thinking mindset to steer future art and content pipeline enhancements.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Fluent in a variety of DCC scripting languages (C/C++, Python, and JavaScript, QT, MEL, etc.)
- Experience with USD and USD pipelines
- Experience scripting for various DCC packages (Houdini, Maya, Substance, Resolve, Premiere etc.)
- 5+ years in the video game and/or film industry, or relevant professional experience.
- Experience developing and maintaining tools used in production environments.
- Strong soft skills and management experience. This includes empathy for addressing the problems of others and respect for others’ time.
- Solid understanding of art integration with game engines as well as corresponding technical restraints.
- Experience researching and designing new processes and leveraging new software.
- Highly motivated to research new novel ways to improve content pipeline over time.
- A positive, solution-oriented attitude coupled with the ability to inspire optimism, foster empathy and model positivity within a team as well as trust with other departments.
SALARY RANGE
Senior Pipeline Engineer - The typical base pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $100,000 - $215,000 per year.
ZeniMax has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistently in different geographic markets. The range above reflects the potential base pay across the U.S. for this role; the applicable base pay range will depend on what ultimately is determined to be the candidate’s primary work location. Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Base pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time.
