AI ML Engineer Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a ai ml engineer in Massachusetts?
There is no state-issued license required to work as an ai ml engineer in Massachusetts. The typical path starts with a bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, or engineering, and many roles in the state, particularly in biopharma and defense, prefer or require a master's degree. Building a portfolio of deployed models and contributing to open-source projects strengthens applications considerably with Massachusetts employers.
Which companies hire ai ml engineers in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring ai ml engineers in Massachusetts right now include Wayfair, CVS Health, and SimpliSafe, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of biopharma companies, defense contractors, and enterprise software firms means openings appear consistently across a broad range of industries rather than clustering in a single sector.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most ai ml engineer jobs?
Boston, Salem, and Waltham have the most ai ml engineer openings in Massachusetts right now. Boston and Cambridge anchor the market through their density of research hospitals, biopharma companies, and university-affiliated startups, while the Route 128 corridor cities draw significant hiring from defense contractors and enterprise technology firms with long-standing Massachusetts operations.
Are there remote ai ml engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 60% of ai ml engineer openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how naturally the work lends itself to distributed collaboration. Model development, experimentation, and data pipeline work are the most commonly remote components, while roles involving proprietary hardware or regulated clinical data tend to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a ai ml engineer in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate ML engineer role reached through a master's program co-op or research assistantship at a Massachusetts university such as MIT, Northeastern, or UMass Amherst, since many Boston-area employers pipeline directly from those programs. Candidates moving laterally from data analyst or data engineer roles are also competitive. A portfolio demonstrating an end-to-end deployed model, even from a personal project, carries significant weight in early-career applications across the state.
Where can I find and apply to ai ml engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to ai ml engineer jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across Greater Boston, the Route 128 corridor, and beyond. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly from the listings.
