Automation Technician Jobs in Atlanta: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an automation technician job in Atlanta?
Focus your search on Atlanta's manufacturing hubs in Norcross, Smyrna, and the Westside industrial corridor, where food production, consumer goods, and automotive suppliers concentrate most of the hands-on openings. Candidates with PLC programming experience, specifically Allen-Bradley or Siemens, stand out in this market. Familiarity with SCADA systems and a background in preventive maintenance gives you a real edge over the competition locally.
Which companies hire automation technicians in Atlanta?
Companies currently hiring automation technicians in Atlanta include Deloitte, Schneider Electric, and PwC, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Atlanta's employer mix leans heavily toward large-scale manufacturers, distribution centers, and food and beverage operations that run continuous production lines and require on-site technical support.
Are there remote automation technician jobs in Atlanta?
Yes, though remote opportunities are limited by nature since most automation technician work involves hands-on equipment maintenance and on-site troubleshooting. About 26% of automation technician openings tied to Atlanta are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, largely covering roles in controls engineering support, remote monitoring, and technical documentation for Atlanta-area operations.
How can I get an automation technician job in Atlanta with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Atlanta is through an apprenticeship or associate degree program at Georgia Piedmont Technical College or Atlanta Technical College, both of which have relationships with local manufacturers. Entry-level maintenance technician and production technician roles at food processing plants and distribution centers in Norcross and Forest Park are common stepping stones. Certifying in a single PLC platform strengthens your application immediately.
