Automotive Technician Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an automotive technician job in Chicago?
Chicago's strongest hiring comes from franchised dealerships on the North Side and in the suburban ring, large fleet maintenance operations in the industrial corridors of Cicero, Bedford Park, and Melrose Park, and national quick-service chains with multiple city locations. Candidates with ASE certifications, hybrid and EV diagnostics experience, and familiarity with dealer management software move to the front of the line in this market.
Which companies hire automotive technicians in Chicago?
Employers hiring automotive technicians in Chicago right now include Transdev, Auto Shop Media, and Leeds West Groups, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Chicago's mix of large new-car dealer groups, municipal and commercial fleet operators, and national service chains means openings range from entry-level lube techs to master diagnostic technicians.
Are there remote automotive technician jobs in Chicago?
Remote work is rare for automotive technicians because the role is fundamentally hands-on and equipment-dependent. About 0% of automotive technician openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically cover technical writing, warranty administration, or parts and service advising rather than direct vehicle work.
How can I get an automotive technician job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is an apprenticeship or lube technician role at a franchised dealership, where many shops actively train up from entry level. Chicago's City Colleges offer automotive technology programs that feed directly into local dealer hiring pipelines. Candidates who highlight a completed associate program, any ASE Student Certification, and hands-on shop hours gain a measurable edge over applicants with no formal training.
