Frame your experience around fintech strategy
Affirm hires Strategy Leads with backgrounds in payments, lending, or consumer finance. Tailor your resume to show how your work has shaped product or market decisions in regulated financial environments, not just general consulting or corporate strategy.
Secure a specialty occupation determination early
H-1B eligibility for Strategy Lead roles depends on demonstrating a direct link between your degree and the position. Finance, economics, or business degrees tied to a structured analytical role strengthen your specialty occupation argument with USCIS before the petition is filed.
Target Affirm's open roles through Migrate Mate
Strategy Lead openings at Affirm span business lines from merchant partnerships to risk and capital markets. Use Migrate Mate to filter active roles by visa sponsorship type so you're applying to positions where sponsorship has already been confirmed as available.
Clarify sponsorship scope during the offer stage
Affirm sponsors multiple visa types, but the pathway offered can vary by role level and location. Before signing, confirm in writing whether the offer includes H-1B filing, Green Card initiation, or OPT extension support, and get clarity on who covers USCIS filing fees.
Leverage OPT strategically if you're pre-H-1B
If you're on F-1 OPT with a STEM extension, you have up to three years of work authorization. Joining Affirm during this window lets you build the job-specific record that strengthens an H-1B petition under specialty occupation scrutiny for strategy roles.
Prepare for PERM documentation before you need it
Green Card sponsorship for Strategy Lead roles typically goes through PERM labor certification with DOL. Gather your foreign degree equivalency evaluations and employment history documentation in advance. Gaps or credential mismatches are the most common source of delays at this stage.

Does Affirm sponsor H-1B visas for Strategy Leads?
Yes, Affirm sponsors H-1B visas for Strategy Lead roles. The key requirement is that the position qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, meaning it requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field directly related to the role. Strategy positions tied to financial analysis, product economics, or market planning typically meet this bar.
Which visa types are commonly used for Strategy Lead roles at Affirm?
H-1B is the most common pathway for Strategy Leads at Affirm, but the company also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates still in or recently graduated from U.S. programs, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying strategy roles, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for longer-term immigration goals.
What qualifications and experience does Affirm expect for Strategy Lead roles?
Affirm typically looks for candidates with backgrounds in investment banking, management consulting, or fintech strategy, often with experience in payments, credit products, or consumer lending. A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a quantitative field is standard. Roles that involve regulatory or capital markets exposure tend to see more competitive candidate pools.
How do I apply for Strategy Lead jobs at Affirm?
Browse current Strategy Lead openings at Affirm on Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can identify positions where your immigration pathway is already supported. When applying, highlight fintech-specific strategy experience and be explicit in your cover materials about your visa status and timeline, particularly if you're approaching an OPT expiration or H-1B cap deadline.
How do I plan my timeline if Affirm is filing an H-1B on my behalf?
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed once per year, with USCIS accepting registrations in March for an October 1 start date. If you're interviewing with Affirm in late summer or fall, your earliest possible H-1B start would be the following October. Factor in your current status expiration and discuss bridging options, like OPT extension or a TN if eligible, with your Affirm HR contact.
