Frame your BD experience around fintech partnerships
Affirm's BD team focuses on merchant and platform integrations, not traditional sales. Tailor your resume to highlight partnership deal structures, API-adjacent commercial negotiations, or payments ecosystem experience before you apply.
Confirm your OPT timeline before accepting offers
If you're on F-1 OPT, verify your remaining authorization window against Affirm's H-1B filing calendar. Cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start, so a late-cycle offer can leave you with a gap.
Ask specifically about cap-exempt filing pathways
If you've previously held H-1B status at a cap-exempt institution, Affirm can file your transfer petition year-round outside the lottery. Clarify your status history with the recruiter so this option gets flagged early in the offer process.
Target Affirm's merchant verticals when applying
Affirm structures BD hiring around industry verticals like retail, travel, and healthcare commerce. Applications referencing relevant vertical experience get routed to the right hiring manager faster and signal a clearer fit for open pipeline coverage needs.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Affirm's open BD roles by visa type
Affirm posts Business Development Manager roles across seniority levels and merchant segments. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for positions that align with your visa category so you're not applying to roles the team can't sponsor.
Understand the PERM timeline before targeting permanent residency
If your goal is a Green Card through employment, PERM labor certification typically takes 12 to 18 months before USCIS even receives your I-140. Raise long-term sponsorship expectations during offer negotiation, not after your first year.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Affirm sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Managers?
Yes, Affirm sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Manager roles. The company has filed petitions across both cap-subject and transfer cases for this function. If you're currently on H-1B with another employer, Affirm can file a transfer petition without waiting for the annual lottery. New cap-subject cases require registration in March for an October 1 start date.
Which visa types does Affirm commonly sponsor for Business Development Manager roles?
Affirm sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Business Development Manager positions, and supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for longer-term employees. TN is an efficient option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional roles. F-1 OPT candidates should confirm their STEM extension eligibility and remaining authorized work period before the offer stage.
How do I apply for Business Development Manager jobs at Affirm?
You can browse and apply for Business Development Manager openings at Affirm directly through their careers portal. Affirm organizes BD roles by merchant vertical and seniority level, so filtering by business line helps identify the right team. Migrate Mate also lists Affirm's open roles filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which is useful if you need to confirm a position supports your specific visa category before applying.
What qualifications does Affirm look for in Business Development Manager candidates?
Affirm typically looks for experience managing complex partnership or merchant deals, particularly within payments, fintech, or e-commerce ecosystems. A background in structuring commercial agreements, working cross-functionally with product or engineering teams, and managing enterprise-level relationships is valued. For immigration purposes, H-1B sponsorship requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, which BD roles at Affirm generally satisfy given the degree requirements involved.
How do I time my job search at Affirm around the H-1B cap deadline?
USCIS opens H-1B registration in early March, with petitions filed by April 1 for an October 1 effective date. If you're targeting Affirm and your current work authorization expires before October, you need an offer in hand by late February to give the legal team time to prepare. F-1 OPT cap-gap protection can bridge a gap if your EAD expires between April 1 and September 30 while your petition is pending.
