Frame your experience around marketplace growth
eBay's Business Development team focuses on seller acquisition, category expansion, and retail partnerships. Tailor your resume to show deal pipeline management, partner onboarding outcomes, and cross-functional collaboration with product or category teams, not just general BD experience.
Clarify your visa type before applying
eBay sponsors multiple visa categories for this role. Know whether you need H-1B cap-subject filing, an E-3 if you're Australian, or TN status if you're Canadian or Mexican. Recruiters move faster when you can name exactly what you need and what timeline that requires.
Target roles tied to specific retail verticals
eBay structures its BD function around categories like electronics, fashion, and collectibles. Applying to verticals where you have existing industry relationships or category expertise signals immediate commercial value and strengthens your case for sponsorship over other candidates.
Anticipate the LCA step in your timeline
Before eBay can file your H-1B petition, your employer must certify a Labor Condition Application with the DOL, confirming prevailing wage compliance. This step typically takes one to two weeks and must be completed before USCIS receives the I-129, so account for it in any start date negotiations.
Use Migrate Mate to find open BD roles filtering by sponsorship
BD hiring at eBay moves across multiple locations and seniority levels. Use Migrate Mate to filter Business Development Manager openings at eBay that align with your visa type, so you're not manually screening postings that won't lead to sponsorship.
Prepare a degree-to-role equivalency argument early
Business Development Manager roles at eBay typically require a bachelor's degree in business, economics, or a related field. If your degree is in an adjacent discipline, document how your coursework and professional experience align to specialty occupation standards USCIS applies during H-1B adjudication.

Does eBay sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Managers?
Yes, eBay sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Managers. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation because it requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as business, economics, or a related discipline. If you're pursuing H-1B sponsorship, note that cap-subject petitions are tied to the annual lottery, so timing your offer and onboarding around the USCIS registration window in March matters.
Which visa types are commonly used for Business Development Manager roles at eBay?
H-1B is the most common visa pathway for Business Development Managers at eBay, but the company also sponsors E-3 visas for Australian citizens, TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA, and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students still within their work authorization window. Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 is also available for longer-tenured employees moving toward permanent residence.
What qualifications or experience does eBay expect for Business Development Manager roles?
eBay typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in business, economics, finance, or a related field, combined with direct experience in partnership development, commercial negotiations, or marketplace operations. Experience in retail, e-commerce, or platform-based businesses is valued. Familiarity with seller ecosystems, category growth strategies, or enterprise account management strengthens an application, especially when competing for roles tied to specific retail verticals.
How do I apply for Business Development Manager jobs at eBay?
You can browse open Business Development Manager positions on eBay's careers site or through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship eligibility. When applying, tailor your materials to the specific vertical or team the role supports. After submitting, eBay's recruiting process typically includes an initial screen, panel interviews, and a case or presentation component before an offer is extended.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship for a Business Development Manager role at eBay?
If you need H-1B sponsorship, the USCIS registration window opens in March each year, with an October 1 start date for selected petitions. That means your offer should ideally be in place before March to align with the cycle. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your remaining authorized work period before applying, since eBay will need time to file before your status expires. E-3 and TN petitions move faster and aren't tied to the annual cap.
