INTRODUCTION
Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. The Checkout Product team is at the heart of this mission—powering Affirm’s core payment experience, frequently seen at merchant point of sale. This experience is distributed through direct merchant integrations and strategic platform partners, and is driven by a sophisticated, real-time, risk-based decisioning system spanning Identity, Fraud, Credit, and Pricing. We are looking for a Senior Director of Consumer Risk product to lead this critical surface area within Checkout. In this role, you will own the product vision, strategy, and execution across Credit, Pricing, and Fraud, enabling Affirm to grow responsibly while delivering best-in-class consumer and merchant experiences. Affirm’s proprietary underwriting is one of our greatest strengths. We only make money when consumers pay us back on time—aligning incentives and fundamentally reimagining how credit should work. As the leader of Consumer Risk product, you will help scale and evolve this system, balancing customer trust, merchant performance, and long-term business outcomes. This is a highly cross-functional, analytically rigorous, and commercially impactful role. You will lead and scale a team of Product Managers, partner deeply with Engineering, Machine Learning, Analytics, Risk, Finance, Legal, Design, and GTM teams, and influence senior leaders across the company.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the end-to-end product vision, strategy, and execution for Consumer Risk within Checkout, encompassing Credit decisioning, Pricing, and Fraud prevention
- Translate Affirm’s mission into a clear product roadmap that balances growth, risk, customer trust, and platform scalability
- Lead and scale a team of Product Managers owning distinct Consumer Risk surface areas, fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and high performance
- Partner closely with Machine Learning, Analytics and Engineering to shape model-driven product experiences, including underwriting logic, pricing frameworks, fraud signals, and decisioning platforms
- Drive quantitative storytelling—using data, experiments, and modeling to inform strategy, influence stakeholders, and guide tradeoffs
- Champion a customer-first mindset, ensuring risk experiences are transparent, fair, and intuitive for consumers while delivering strong outcomes for merchants
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Risk, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Design, Marketing, and GTM teams to deliver cohesive, scalable solutions
- Set and own key performance metrics (e.g., approval rate, conversion, loss rate, unit economics, LTV, fraud outcomes, customer trust metrics) and hold teams accountable to results
- Navigate complex organizational dynamics and influence senior stakeholders, including the executive team, with clear articulation of strategy, tradeoffs, and impact
- Balance near-term execution with long-term platform investments, ensuring Consumer Risk capabilities scale with Affirm’s growth and partner ecosystem
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 12+ years of Product Management experience, including leadership roles on fast-paced teams driving responsible, sustainable growth
- Deep experience working with Credit, Pricing, and/or Fraud stakeholders, with a strong understanding of:
- Credit: underwriting tradeoffs, unit economics, loss management, regulatory considerations
- Pricing: risk-based pricing, margin optimization, experimentation, and fairness considerations
- Fraud: adversarial systems, real-time decisioning, false positive/negative tradeoffs, and customer trust
- Strong quantitative and analytical orientation—comfortable engaging in model-level discussions, using data to drive decisions, and translating complexity into clear narratives
- Experience building and scaling platform and decisioning products, not just surface-level UX
- Proven track record of managing and mentoring large, geographically distributed PM teams
- Commercially minded with a high-agency, bias-to-action mindset and comfort making hard tradeoffs in ambiguous environments
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across functions and levels
- Experience working in design-forward organizations that prioritize clarity, transparency, and high-quality user experiences
- A systems thinker who can balance short-term business impact with long-term scalability and technical health
- Fintech, payments, or risk-heavy consumer product experience is a strong plus
COMPENSATION

Frame your credentials around fintech strategy
Affirm's Strategy Directors typically come from investment banking, consulting, or growth-stage fintech backgrounds. Before applying, restructure your resume to emphasize experience with financial products, unit economics, or merchant-side partnerships rather than generic corporate strategy.
Search verified sponsorship-friendly openings on Migrate Mate
Filter Affirm's open Strategy Director postings by visa type on Migrate Mate to identify roles where sponsorship is confirmed, saving time you'd otherwise spend qualifying each position through Affirm's recruiter pipeline.
Raise sponsorship early in recruiter conversations
Affirm's recruiting process for senior strategy hires moves quickly through case interviews and executive panels. Confirming sponsorship eligibility in the first recruiter call prevents late-stage complications after you've invested weeks in their process.
Understand the PERM timeline for EB-2 or EB-3 paths
If your long-term goal is a Green Card, recognize that PERM labor certification at the DOL typically takes 12 to 18 months before an I-140 can be filed. Negotiate green card support into your offer letter before signing.

Find Strategy Director at Affirm JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Affirm sponsor H-1B visas for Strategy Directors?
Yes, Affirm sponsors H-1B visas for Strategy Director roles. Senior strategy positions at Affirm typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards given the analytical and financial expertise required. Affirm has a documented history of filing H-1B petitions for corporate strategy and business development functions, making it a viable target for H-1B-dependent candidates.
Which visa types are commonly used for Strategy Director roles at Affirm?
H-1B is the most common path for Strategy Directors at Affirm. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying business strategy roles. Affirm also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for early-career candidates, and sponsors EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card petitions for senior hires where the role meets PERM labor certification requirements through the DOL.
What qualifications and experience does Affirm expect for Strategy Director roles?
Affirm's Strategy Director positions typically require a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related quantitative field, with an MBA or equivalent advanced degree often preferred. Candidates with backgrounds in investment banking, management consulting, or fintech strategy are most competitive. Experience working on credit products, merchant growth, or capital markets strategy is particularly valued given Affirm's core business model.
How do I apply for Strategy Director jobs at Affirm?
You can browse current Strategy Director openings at Affirm through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles where visa sponsorship is confirmed. Affirm's hiring process for senior strategy roles typically includes an initial recruiter screen, a written case or take-home analysis, and multiple rounds of executive panel interviews. Clarifying your visa situation with the recruiter in the first call avoids delays later in the process.
How do I time my application if I need H-1B sponsorship through Affirm?
H-1B cap-subject petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start date, so you'll want an offer in hand by late February or early March to allow time for USCIS registration and petition preparation. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, Affirm can file an H-1B transfer and you can start on the receipt notice without waiting for approval.
