Frame your CV around P&L ownership
Thermo Fisher's Strategy Director roles frequently require cross-divisional accountability across life sciences or diagnostics portfolios. Quantify commercial outcomes, not just advisory work, so your application signals readiness for operating-level influence, not just strategic support.
Verify the role's specialty occupation standing
H-1B eligibility for Strategy Director positions depends on demonstrating the role requires a specific bachelor's or higher degree. Review the job description for explicit degree requirements before applying, since vague language can complicate USCIS adjudication later.
Target divisions with active M&A pipelines
Thermo Fisher regularly expands through acquisition, and strategy headcount tends to follow corporate development activity. Prioritize open roles within divisions that have recently integrated new businesses, where senior strategy talent gaps are most acute.
Confirm OPT STEM extension eligibility early
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your strategy role qualifies under a STEM-designated CIP code before your standard OPT period ends. Science and research companies like Thermo Fisher are E-Verify participants, which is a prerequisite for the 24-month STEM OPT extension.
Browse Strategy Director openings on Migrate Mate
Filter for Strategy Director roles at Thermo Fisher Scientific using Migrate Mate to surface positions where sponsorship is confirmed. This saves you from applying to postings where the hiring team hasn't committed to supporting a visa petition.
Get the offer letter before PERM discussions begin
If you're targeting a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, the PERM labor certification process at DOL requires a firm job offer and defined prevailing wage. Push to have sponsorship terms written into your offer letter so filing timelines are clear from the start.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Strategy Directors?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Strategy Director roles. The company participates in E-Verify and has a consistent pattern of sponsoring senior professional functions, including strategy, across its business units. Because H-1B approval for director-level roles hinges on the position meeting USCIS specialty occupation criteria, the job description language matters. Roles tied to a specific analytical or scientific domain are generally stronger candidates for approval than broadly defined general management positions.
How do I apply for Strategy Director jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Applications go through Thermo Fisher Scientific's careers portal, where Strategy Director openings are listed by division and business unit. Before applying, identify which division aligns with your background, whether that's life sciences, diagnostics, or laboratory products, since strategy roles at Thermo Fisher tend to be division-specific rather than enterprise-wide. You can also browse open sponsorship-confirmed postings on Migrate Mate to identify which roles are actively seeking international candidates.
Which visa types does Thermo Fisher Scientific use for Strategy Director roles?
Thermo Fisher sponsors H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for qualifying roles. For Strategy Directors, H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant path, with Green Card sponsorship typically following after a period of employment. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying strategy and business roles, subject to USMCA occupation criteria.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific expect for Strategy Director roles?
Thermo Fisher's Strategy Director roles typically require an MBA or advanced degree in a relevant field, combined with prior experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, or business development within life sciences, healthcare, or a related sector. Candidates with a track record of leading strategic planning cycles, evaluating M&A opportunities, or driving commercial transformation within a large, matrixed organization tend to be most competitive. Industry-specific domain knowledge, particularly in scientific instruments or diagnostics, strengthens candidacy significantly.
How do I navigate the sponsorship and visa filing timeline for a Strategy Director offer at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Once you receive an offer, the timeline depends on your current status. H-1B cap-subject filings open in March for an October 1 start, so if you're not already in H-1B status, your start date may be constrained by the lottery cycle. Cap-exempt transfers from another H-1B employer can proceed year-round. For Green Card sponsorship through PERM, the DOL process typically takes six months to over a year before USCIS adjudication begins. Clarify sponsorship scope and timing with your recruiter before signing your offer letter.
