Verify your credentials before applying
California requires RN licensure through the Board of Registered Nursing before any employer can sponsor you. Start the licensure by endorsement process early, as delays here will hold up your entire visa timeline regardless of where you are in the hiring process.
Target Alameda's high-turnover acute care units
Alameda Health System's busiest hiring tends to cluster in emergency, med-surg, and ICU. Applying directly to these units signals clinical readiness and puts you in front of hiring managers who are under the most pressure to fill seats quickly.
Confirm the hospital is E-Verify enrolled before your interview
Public hospital systems like Alameda Health are generally E-Verify compliant, but confirm this before you accept an offer. E-Verify enrollment is a prerequisite for OPT and CPT work authorization, so it directly affects whether F-1 status is viable for you at this employer.
Ask HR about LCA filing timing during the offer stage
The Labor Condition Application with DOL must be certified before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. At the offer stage, ask HR whether they use in-house immigration counsel or an outside firm, so you understand how quickly the LCA process can realistically start.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Nursing roles at Alameda Health System
Alameda posts nursing positions across multiple units and locations. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Alameda Health System roles that align with your visa type, so you're targeting positions where sponsorship is already part of the employer's hiring pattern.
Prepare your NCLEX and foreign credential documentation in advance
If you trained outside the U.S., have your credential evaluation from a CGFNS-recognized body ready before your first HR conversation. Alameda's hiring team will need to confirm equivalency before moving your sponsorship paperwork forward, and gaps here cause significant delays.

Does Alameda Health System sponsor H-1B visas for Nurses?
Yes, Alameda Health System has sponsored H-1B visas for Nursing roles. As a public health system operating across multiple acute care facilities in Alameda County, it has the institutional infrastructure to file H-1B petitions. That said, sponsorship decisions are made on a role-by-role basis, so confirming directly with HR during the offer process is the right move.
Which visa types are commonly used for Nursing roles at Alameda Health System?
Nursing roles at Alameda Health System are most commonly filled through H-1B sponsorship for internationally trained RNs with specialty degrees. F-1 OPT is a viable path for nurses who graduated from a U.S. nursing program and are within their OPT window. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican RNs, as Nursing is explicitly listed as a qualifying TN profession under USMCA.
How do I apply for Nursing jobs at Alameda Health System?
You can browse and apply for open Nursing positions at Alameda Health System through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can identify positions where sponsorship is realistic for your situation. Applications typically require a current California RN license, relevant clinical experience, and documentation of any foreign credential evaluations if you trained outside the United States.
What qualifications and experience does Alameda Health System expect for Nursing roles?
Alameda Health System generally expects candidates to hold an active California RN license, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher for specialty and leadership roles, and hands-on clinical experience in the relevant care setting. For internationally trained nurses, a credential evaluation from a body recognized by the California Board of Registered Nursing is required before licensure by endorsement can be completed.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Nursing role at Alameda Health System?
Timeline depends on the visa type. TN status for Canadian nurses can be obtained at the port of entry with the right documentation, making it the fastest path. H-1B sponsorship requires a Labor Condition Application certified by DOL followed by a USCIS petition, which runs several months under standard processing. F-1 OPT authorization through USCIS typically takes up to 90 days from application, so applying well before your start date is critical.
