Document your clinical physics credentials early
Board certification from the American Board of Radiology or CAMPEP-accredited residency completion strengthens your H-1B petition significantly. Alameda Health System's roles in therapeutic and diagnostic physics require credentials that directly support the specialty occupation classification.
Target Alameda's public hospital network directly
Alameda Health System operates Highland Hospital and other safety-net facilities with active imaging and radiation oncology departments. Applying to postings tied to specific facilities rather than system-wide searches signals familiarity with their clinical structure and increases your visibility to hiring managers.
Confirm visa sponsorship before your final interview
Ask your recruiter explicitly whether the specific Physics position is approved for H-1B or TN sponsorship before advancing. Public health systems sometimes route sponsorship decisions through a central HR office, so the hiring department may not know the answer without escalating.
Align your TN application to physics specialty definitions
If you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, TN status covers Physicist as a qualifying occupation. Bring documentation connecting your degree and role title directly to physics, since border officers assess this independently and inconsistently without a strong paper trail.
Time your OPT start date around Alameda's hiring cycles
Alameda Health System tends to hire for physics roles when clinical programs expand or staff rotate. Request your F-1 OPT start date from your DSO to align with a realistic offer date, since you cannot retroactively delay OPT once it begins, and losing weeks before employment starts shortens your authorization window.
Use Migrate Mate to surface current Physics openings
Alameda Health System posts Physics roles across different departments and facilities at different times. Use Migrate Mate to browse current openings filtered specifically for visa-sponsoring employers in healthcare, so you catch postings as they go live rather than checking manually.

Find Physics at Alameda Health System JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Alameda Health System sponsor H-1B visas for Physicists?
Yes, Alameda Health System sponsors H-1B visas for Physics roles. As a public health system, Alameda qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, which means petitions can be filed at any point in the year without waiting for the annual lottery. This is a meaningful advantage for candidates who missed the H-1B cap cycle or need to start sooner.
How do I apply for Physics jobs at Alameda Health System?
Start by browsing open Physics positions on Alameda Health System's careers portal or through Migrate Mate, which filters for visa-sponsoring employers in healthcare. Tailor your application to the specific facility and department, since Alameda operates multiple hospitals. Flag your visa sponsorship needs early in the recruiter screening call to avoid late-stage surprises.
Which visa types are commonly used for Physics roles at Alameda Health System?
H-1B is the most common pathway for Physics positions at Alameda Health System, supported by the health system's cap-exempt status. F-1 OPT and CPT are options for students completing physics graduate programs. Canadian and Mexican nationals working in a Physicist capacity can also pursue TN status, which does not require employer USCIS petitions filed in advance.
What qualifications does Alameda Health System expect for Physics positions?
Most clinical physics roles require a master's degree or doctorate in medical physics or a closely related discipline. CAMPEP-accredited residency completion and ABR board certification are often expected for therapeutic or diagnostic physicist positions. Research or imaging physics roles may weight hands-on experience with specific modalities, such as MRI, CT, or linear accelerators, alongside formal credentials.
How do I time my visa sponsorship process when pursuing a Physics role at Alameda Health System?
Because Alameda Health System is cap-exempt, H-1B petitions can be filed year-round, giving you more scheduling flexibility than cap-subject employers. From offer letter to USCIS approval typically takes two to four months with standard processing, or as little as two to three weeks with premium processing. Factor in the time your employer needs to prepare the Labor Condition Application with DOL before the H-1B petition is filed.
