Verify your credentials meet Georgia licensing requirements
Georgia requires an active RN license before Emory can proceed with most visa filings. Start the NCLEX and Georgia Composite Medical Board process early, since credential evaluation through CGFNS can add months to your timeline.
Target Emory's specialty units with documented shortages
Emory's critical care, oncology, and perioperative units consistently recruit internationally. Focusing your application on these departments improves your odds of reaching a hiring manager who already has a sponsorship workflow in place.
Understand how EB-3 fits nursing career pathways
Registered nurses qualify under EB-3 as Schedule A shortage occupations, which bypasses the PERM labor market test. This matters for timeline planning since you can move toward a Green Card without waiting for DOL-supervised recruitment to close.
Ask HR directly about petition timing after your offer
Academic medical centers like Emory typically route visa filings through a central HR or legal team. After you receive an offer, ask specifically whether they file H-1B or initiate EB-3 concurrently, so your start date expectations align with USCIS processing windows.
Browse open Nursing roles at Emory using Migrate Mate
Filtering by employer and role type narrows your search to positions where sponsorship has already been offered. Migrate Mate lets you identify active Emory Nursing openings alongside sponsorship history, so you apply where the pathway already exists.
Prepare your employment authorization documents before interviews
If you're on F-1 OPT or a TN visa, have your EAD or current status documentation ready before your first interview. Emory's hiring teams move quickly on clinical roles, and delays in status verification can push your start date back significantly.

Find Nursing at Emory University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Emory University sponsor H-1B visas for Nursings?
Yes, Emory University sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Nursing roles. Registered nurses working in specialty occupations that require a bachelor's degree in nursing can be eligible. Because H-1B is subject to the annual cap and lottery, Emory also commonly pursues EB-3 immigrant visa pathways for nurses, which operate on a separate Schedule A shortage occupation track and do not require PERM labor certification.
How do I apply for Nursing jobs at Emory University?
Applications go through Emory's careers portal, where positions are posted by unit and campus. Migrate Mate also lists active Emory Nursing openings filtered by sponsorship history, which helps you prioritize roles where international candidates are already being considered. Tailor your application to the specific department, since critical care, oncology, and surgical units tend to move fastest on hiring decisions.
Which visa types does Emory University commonly use for Nursing roles?
Emory supports several visa categories for Nursing professionals, including H-1B, EB-2, EB-3, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT and CPT. For internationally trained nurses, EB-3 is particularly relevant because registered nurses are designated Schedule A shortage occupations by DOL, allowing Emory to file an immigrant petition without completing the standard PERM labor market test first.
What qualifications does Emory University expect for sponsored Nursing positions?
Emory typically requires an active Georgia RN license, graduation from an accredited nursing program, and relevant clinical experience aligned to the unit you're applying for. For specialty roles in ICU, oncology, or perioperative care, additional certifications such as CCRN or OCN strengthen your application. International graduates should plan for CGFNS credential evaluation and NCLEX completion well ahead of any expected start date.
How do I plan my timeline if Emory sponsors my H-1B petition?
H-1B petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start date, meaning you need an offer in hand before the annual cap registration window in March. If you miss the lottery or need to start sooner, Emory can assess whether cap-exempt H-1B status or an alternative pathway applies. USCIS premium processing can reduce approval time to around 15 business days, which matters when your clinical start date is tied to unit staffing needs.
