INTRODUCTION
Engineering Manager – AI-Enabled Investment Platforms
The Engineering Manager will play a critical leadership role in the design, build, and evolution of Bridgewater Associates’ AI-Enabled Investment Platforms—a set of tightly integrated platforms through which investment logic, quantitative research, and AI capabilities are expressed, scaled, and operated. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for an experienced technologist who combines strong architectural judgment, modern engineering instincts, and people leadership. You will own multiple core platforms end-to-end, lead high-performing engineering teams, and partner deeply with investors, researchers, and scientists to translate complex ideas into reliable, high-impact systems. Success in this role requires comfort operating in a modern engineering paradigm: shaping system design, leveraging advanced tooling and agentic workflows, providing context and direction to increasingly automated systems, and ensuring teams consistently ship high-quality outcomes—rather than optimizing for individual code output.
You May Be a Good Fit If You…
- Are excited about AI-assisted development as a way to meaningfully amplify developer productivity, creativity, and leverage—while recognizing the continued importance of human judgment, taste, and ingenuity
- Spend time actively refining, customizing, and evolving your AI workflows, including how tools, agents, and automation are orchestrated to achieve better outcomes
- Enjoy thinking about how emerging capabilities change how software is designed, built, and operated—not just what is built
Key Responsibilities
Platform Design & Technical Ownership
- Own the architecture, design, and ongoing evolution of a portfolio of AI-Enabled Investment Platforms, ensuring they scale with Bridgewater’s investment and research ambitions
- Design and build systems using modern development approaches, including advanced tooling, automation, orchestration, and AI-assisted workflows
- Make and steward critical architectural decisions across platforms, balancing speed, correctness, resilience, and long-term adaptability
- Drive platform modernization, performance improvements, and disciplined reduction of technical debt across the platform ecosystem
- Partner closely with investors, researchers, and scientists to deeply understand workflows and express them in durable, extensible technology
- Set and uphold high standards for reliability, testing, observability, security, and operational excellence
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop senior engineers and technical leads, creating an environment of high ownership, intellectual rigor, and continuous improvement
- Actively shape how teams work, including how they reason about quality, correctness, and delivery in complex systems
- Bring a clear point of view on how high-performing teams should design, build, and operate production platforms
- Set expectations, provide regular feedback, and coach individuals toward sustained growth and impact
- Build and scale teams through hiring, onboarding, and ongoing talent development
- Foster strong collaboration across technology, research, and investment groups
Engineering Excellence & Delivery
- Establish and evolve engineering practices that enable teams to consistently ship high-quality systems
- Balance short-term delivery pressure with long-term platform health, resilience, and sustainability
- Drive clarity around technical roadmaps, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs across the platform portfolio
- Champion strong documentation, shared context, and operational transparency
Strategy & Stakeholder Partnership
- Partner with senior technology and business leaders to shape multi-platform strategy and execution
- Communicate complex technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Influence technology direction through sound judgment, principled reasoning, and hands-on engagement
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience building and operating complex production systems
- 4+ years in a senior technical leadership role (e.g., technical lead, engineering manager, senior technical manager)
- Proven experience owning and evolving large-scale platforms, ideally in investment, financial, data, or AI-driven environments
- Strong system design and architectural skills across distributed systems, data platforms, and AI-enabled systems
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams while remaining deeply engaged in technical decisions
- Experience working closely with investors, researchers, or scientists on demanding, high-stakes problems
- Strong judgment, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building platforms that support quantitative research, investment decision-making, or advanced analytics
- Hands-on exposure to AI/ML systems, data pipelines, or model-driven platforms in production
- Experience operating in high-performance, intellectually demanding environments
- Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and modern development practices
Physical Requirements
The anticipated onsite requirement for this role is 4 days onsite, which will be roughly split into 2 days per week at our Westport, CT campus, and 2 days per week at our NYC office.
Compensation Band

How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Bridgewater Associates Visa Sponsorship USA
Target roles at the intersection of finance and technology
Bridgewater sponsors across both investment and operational functions. Roles combining quantitative research, software engineering, or data analysis with financial knowledge tend to align most closely with the firm's sponsorship history and hiring priorities.
Understand Bridgewater's unique culture before applying
Bridgewater is known for its principles-based management philosophy. Demonstrating genuine familiarity with its approach to radical transparency and systematic thinking signals serious interest and sets you apart from candidates who apply broadly.
Position yourself for both H-1B and long-term Green Card sponsorship
Bridgewater sponsors both H-1B visas and employment-based Green Cards. If you're planning for long-term U.S. residency in asset management, it's worth asking recruiters early about how the firm approaches EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship timelines.
Use Migrate Mate to confirm active sponsorship before applying
Not every investment firm sponsors visas consistently. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus your effort on employers like Bridgewater with a demonstrated track record.
Tailor your application to quantitative and research-driven disciplines
Bridgewater's investment management model is heavily research-oriented. Candidates with strong quantitative, economics, or computer science backgrounds are well positioned for roles that historically attract sponsored hires at the firm.
Prepare for a rigorous, multi-stage interview process
Bridgewater's hiring process is longer and more evaluative than most asset managers. Starting your application well ahead of H-1B deadlines or OPT expiry gives you the runway to complete interviews without timeline pressure compromising your performance.

Does Bridgewater Associates sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Bridgewater Associates sponsors H-1B visas and has maintained a consistent sponsorship track record in the investment management industry. The firm sponsors across technical, research, and operational roles. Given the competitive hiring process and the H-1B cap lottery, it's worth applying early and ensuring your role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS guidelines.
What visa types does Bridgewater Associates sponsor?
Bridgewater Associates sponsors both H-1B nonimmigrant visas and employment-based Green Cards, including EB-2 and EB-3 categories. The firm does not have a notable history of sponsoring E-3 visas. International candidates should clarify with recruiters which pathway applies to their role and where they are in their immigration timeline.
Which departments or roles at Bridgewater Associates typically receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Bridgewater tends to concentrate in roles requiring specialized expertise, particularly in quantitative research, software engineering, data science, and investment analytics. The firm's research-driven model means it regularly hires candidates with advanced technical or financial backgrounds, and those disciplines historically account for the bulk of sponsored positions.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at Bridgewater Associates?
Migrate Mate lists open roles at Bridgewater Associates and other verified visa sponsors, letting you filter by sponsorship type and industry so you're not guessing which employers will actually support your application. Searching directly on Migrate Mate for Bridgewater roles is the most efficient way to find positions with confirmed sponsorship history in asset management.
How do I time my application to Bridgewater Associates around visa deadlines?
Bridgewater's interview process can span several months, so timing matters. If you're targeting an H-1B cap filing in April, aim to begin the application process no later than the preceding fall. For candidates on OPT, account for the full interview timeline plus the time your employer needs to prepare the H-1B petition before the filing window opens.
