INTRODUCTION
Dive in and do the best work of your career at DigitalOcean. Journey alongside a strong community of top talent who are relentless in their drive to build the simplest scalable cloud. If you have a growth mindset, naturally like to think big and bold, and are energized by the fast-paced environment of a true industry disruptor, you'll find your place here. We value winning together—while learning, having fun, and making a profound difference for the dreamers and builders in the world.
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer (IC3) to join our Customer Trust & Engineering team working on Identity and Access Management. IAM is the bedrock of trust at DigitalOcean; our services sit in the critical path of every request, authorizing billions of transactions per second with single-digit millisecond latency.
In this role, you won't just maintain existing systems—you will architect the next generation of our Identity platform. You will be instrumental in supporting our AI initiatives, building seamless SSO integrations for global partners, and evolving our policy engine to support complex, agentic workflows. If you are passionate about distributed systems, security-first engineering, and building at hyperscale, this is the team for you.
- Architect for Scale: Design and develop high-availability, low-latency authentication and authorization services in Go that scale to handle massive load spikes across global regions.
- Drive Next-Gen Innovation: Build the IAM foundations for emerging cloud-native AI/ML platforms, designing secure token exchange patterns and identity context injection for agentic AI workflows.
- Modernize Identity: Lead the implementation of OIDC and SAML integrations, enabling seamless federated Single Sign-On (SSO) for enterprise customers and strategic global partners.
- Solve Complex AuthZ: Evolve our Policy Engine (using industry standards like Rego/OPA) to support advanced resource-level permissions, dynamic scoping, and network-aware access conditions.
- Evolve Identity Models: Design and scale robust, multi-tenant data models to manage complex hierarchical structures (users, teams, organizations, and resource boundaries) that map to enterprise customer needs.
- Operational Excellence: Take ownership of service reliability, from fine-tuning Kubernetes deployments to migrating legacy data pipelines to modern eventing architectures.
- Security First: Proactively identify and remediate complex security vulnerabilities, ensuring our auth flows are resilient against credential stuffing, session hijacking, and configuration theft.
- Mentor & Lead: Act as a technical lead for major workstreams, conducting deep code reviews and mentoring junior engineers in distributed systems best practices.
What You'll Add to DigitalOcean
- Experience: 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2+ years focused on Identity (AuthN/AuthZ), Security Products, or high-scale Distributed Systems.
- Language Expert: Expert-level proficiency in Go and a strong understanding of gRPC microservices architecture.
- Identity Specialist: Deep knowledge of identity protocols (OIDC, OAuth2, SAML) and access control models (RBAC, ABAC, PBAC).
- Distributed Systems Guru: Proven ability to build systems that handle consensus, replication, and partitioning at cloud scale.
- Cloud Native: Working experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes), SQL (MySQL), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
- Problem Solver: A track record of "unwinding" complex legacy logic into clean, maintainable abstractions.
- Communication: Ability to communicate technical strategy to senior leadership and collaborate across teams (Inference, Billing, DOKS).
Nice to Have
- Experience with Open Policy Agent (OPA) and Rego.
- Familiarity with Cloud-native deployment strategies (Canary/Blue-Green) via Kubernetes.
Compensation Range:
- $140,800 - $176,000

Build Cloud-Native Credentials Before Applying
DigitalOcean prioritizes engineers with hands-on Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipeline experience. Earning a CKA or HashiCorp certification before applying signals the specific technical depth their infrastructure teams look for in senior candidates.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Sponsorship-Confirmed Openings
Not every Senior DevOps posting at DigitalOcean will explicitly state visa sponsorship availability. Use Migrate Mate to surface roles with confirmed sponsorship history so you're not wasting time on positions that won't move forward for your situation.
Prepare for a Multi-Round Technical Interview Process
DigitalOcean's engineering interviews for senior DevOps roles typically include a systems design round and a live infrastructure troubleshooting exercise. Document past incidents you've owned end-to-end, including runbooks you've authored, to demonstrate the ownership level they expect.
Get Your Employer Started on the LCA Early
DigitalOcean must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your H-1B petition reaches USCIS. Confirm the LCA is in progress as soon as your offer is finalized, since DOL certification alone can take 7 to 10 business days under standard processing.

Find Senior Devops Engineer at DigitalOcean JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does DigitalOcean sponsor H-1B visas for Senior Devops Engineers?
Yes, DigitalOcean sponsors H-1B visas for Senior DevOps Engineers. The process requires your employer to file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting your H-1B petition to USCIS. For cap-subject filings, the registration window opens in March each year, with an October 1 start date if selected. Confirm early whether your role qualifies for cap-exempt filing through a university or research institution affiliation.
How do I apply for Senior Devops Engineer jobs at DigitalOcean?
Applications go through DigitalOcean's careers portal, where Senior DevOps roles are typically listed under Engineering or Infrastructure. To find openings that explicitly support visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate to browse confirmed sponsorship-eligible postings. Tailoring your application to highlight cloud infrastructure ownership, Kubernetes experience, and incident response history aligns with what DigitalOcean's hiring teams evaluate at the senior level.
Which visa types are commonly used for Senior Devops Engineer roles at DigitalOcean?
H-1B is the most common path for Senior DevOps Engineers at DigitalOcean, covering specialty occupation roles that require a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. F-1 OPT and STEM OPT extensions allow recent graduates to work while H-1B sponsorship is pending. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering categories. DigitalOcean also supports EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based Green Card petitions for longer-term sponsorship.
What qualifications does DigitalOcean expect for a Senior Devops Engineer?
DigitalOcean typically expects several years of production infrastructure experience, with strong depth in Kubernetes, cloud platforms such as AWS or DigitalOcean's own managed services, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or Ansible. Senior-level candidates are expected to lead architecture decisions, own reliability improvements, and demonstrate experience with observability tooling and incident management. A computer science degree or equivalent technical background is generally required for H-1B specialty occupation classification.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Senior Devops Engineer at DigitalOcean?
For H-1B cap-subject filings, the timeline runs from March lottery registration to an October 1 start date, roughly six to seven months. USCIS premium processing can return a decision within 15 business days for an additional fee. The DOL LCA certification step alone takes 7 to 10 business days and must be completed before USCIS filing. Employment-based Green Card sponsorship through PERM typically adds one to three years depending on your country of birth and priority date.
