Build a Portfolio Around Built Environments
DLR Group works across civic, healthcare, education, and workplace projects. Frame your portfolio around spatial design, environmental graphics, or wayfinding systems tied to architecture. Generalist graphic design work won't stand out the way project-integrated design does.
Confirm Your Role Qualifies as a Specialty Occupation
H-1B eligibility requires your Creative Designer role to demand at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. USCIS scrutinizes design titles closely, so your offer letter and degree should align on discipline, whether that's graphic design, interior design, or a closely related field.
Target Studio Offices With Active Project Pipelines
DLR Group operates regional studios, and hiring for Creative Designer roles often reflects local project demand. Research which offices are working on large-scale civic or campus projects, then apply directly to those locations rather than submitting a blanket national application.
Start OPT or CPT Applications With SEVP Early
If you're on an F-1 visa, your DSO must authorize OPT or CPT through your school before you can start. SEVP processing can take 90 days for post-completion OPT. Line this up before accepting an offer so your start date doesn't slip past your authorization window.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open Creative Designer Roles
DLR Group lists Creative Designer positions across multiple studios, and availability shifts quickly with project cycles. Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa sponsorship type so you're only applying to positions where your work authorization need is already accounted for.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope Before Signing Your Offer
Some firms sponsor H-1B status but won't cover premium processing fees or attorney costs. Before signing, ask HR directly whether DLR Group covers USCIS filing fees, legal representation, and whether they'll file in the annual H-1B cap registration cycle or through a cap-exempt route.

Find Creative Designer at DLR Group JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does DLR Group sponsor H-1B visas for Creative Designers?
Yes, DLR Group sponsors H-1B visas for Creative Designer roles. The role must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, meaning the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field like graphic design, interior design, or a related discipline. Your degree field and job duties need to align clearly for the petition to hold up under scrutiny.
How do I apply for Creative Designer jobs at DLR Group?
Applications go through DLR Group's careers portal, where roles are listed by studio location and practice area. Tailor your portfolio and resume to the specific project type the office handles, whether that's higher education, healthcare, or civic work. You can also browse Creative Designer openings filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate before applying directly through DLR Group's site.
Which visa types does DLR Group commonly use for Creative Designer roles?
DLR Group sponsors H-1B visas for Creative Designers who need long-term work authorization. F-1 students can enter through CPT during school or OPT after graduation, which often serves as a pathway into a full H-1B sponsorship. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying design occupations, subject to DOL's approved TN profession list.
What qualifications does DLR Group expect for Creative Designer roles?
DLR Group typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in graphic design, interior design, architecture, or a related field, along with demonstrated experience in design systems, environmental graphics, or brand integration within built environments. Proficiency in industry tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, or similar platforms is expected. Project-specific experience in architecture or construction settings gives applicants a meaningful edge.
How do I time my H-1B filing if I accept a Creative Designer offer at DLR Group?
USCIS opens H-1B cap registration in March each year, with the employment start date of October 1 if selected. If you're on OPT, your 60-day grace period and any STEM OPT extension need to bridge the gap. DLR Group's HR team initiates the USCIS petition after selection, so confirm their process timeline and whether they file with premium processing before you commit to a start date.
