Tailor your credentials to DLR Group's project types
DLR Group works across education, justice, healthcare, and civic facilities. Frame your electrical engineering experience around building systems for these sectors, power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage systems for institutional environments carry more weight than commercial or industrial backgrounds.
Get your PE license pathway in order
Many Electrical Project Engineer roles at DLR Group expect candidates to be working toward or holding a Professional Engineer license. Confirm your EIT status and document your progress. States vary on reciprocity, so align your license application with where DLR Group's offices are hiring.
Identify which DLR Group office is actively hiring
DLR Group operates across dozens of offices nationally. Target offices with open Electrical Project Engineer roles specifically, since LCA filings are location-specific and sponsorship decisions are often made at the studio level rather than centrally. Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by location.
Time your OPT application before your program ends
If you're on F-1 status, USCIS recommends filing your OPT EAD application up to 90 days before your program end date. Starting at DLR Group on OPT gives both sides time to assess fit before the employer commits to H-1B sponsorship in the following cap season.
Clarify the H-1B filing timeline during the offer stage
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed for an October 1 start date, with registration opening in March. If you receive an offer after April, confirm with DLR Group's HR whether a cap-gap extension or a cap-exempt filing path applies to your situation before accepting.
Prepare a Revit and BIM portfolio before your interviews
DLR Group's electrical engineering teams rely heavily on Revit and integrated BIM workflows. Bring documented project examples showing your coordination experience with mechanical and structural disciplines. This signals you can contribute immediately on complex building projects without an extended onboarding period.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does DLR Group sponsor H-1B visas for Electrical Project Engineers?
Yes, DLR Group has sponsored H-1B visas for engineering roles including Electrical Project Engineers. Sponsorship decisions are typically made at the office or studio level, so your best approach is to apply directly for a specific open role and raise sponsorship during the offer stage. DLR Group's engineering positions generally qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria.
How do I apply for Electrical Project Engineer jobs at DLR Group?
Applications go through DLR Group's careers portal on their website, where roles are listed by office location and discipline. You can also browse open Electrical Project Engineer positions at DLR Group through Migrate Mate, which filters roles specifically by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can confirm the position is relevant before applying.
Which visa types are commonly used for Electrical Project Engineer roles at DLR Group?
DLR Group supports several work authorization pathways for Electrical Project Engineers, including H-1B for specialty occupation workers, F-1 OPT and CPT for students completing engineering degrees, and TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. The right pathway depends on your current immigration status, degree, and citizenship.
What qualifications does DLR Group expect for Electrical Project Engineers?
Most postings require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and experience with building electrical systems, including power, lighting, and low-voltage design. Proficiency in Revit and familiarity with BIM coordination workflows is commonly expected. Candidates working toward or holding a Professional Engineer license are preferred for project lead responsibilities, though it is not always required at entry level.
How do I manage the timing between an offer from DLR Group and my visa filing?
If you're on F-1 OPT, you can start work as soon as your EAD is valid while DLR Group files an H-1B registration in March for an October start. TN visa holders can often start more quickly since TN status can be obtained at the border without USCIS processing. Confirm your specific timeline with DLR Group's HR and an immigration attorney early in the offer process.
