Align Your Credentials to Kiewit's Project Types
Kiewit's electrical work spans high-voltage transmission, substation construction, and power generation. Tailor your resume to show hands-on experience in these areas, not just general electrical engineering. Field-based project delivery experience strengthens your candidacy significantly.
Target Roles in Kiewit's Energy Division
Kiewit operates through distinct business units. Electrical Project Engineer openings sit primarily within its Power and Energy divisions. Applying directly to postings under those divisions gives your application more context and lands it with the right hiring team.
Get a PE License or Active EIT Status
Kiewit values engineers on a professional licensure track. If you're on OPT or recently graduated, having your EIT certification and active progress toward a PE license signals long-term commitment and makes the sponsorship investment easier for the company to justify.
Clarify Your Visa Type Before the Offer Stage
Kiewit sponsors multiple visa categories, including H-1B, TN, and Green Card pathways. Knowing which category fits your background before conversations reach the offer stage prevents delays and lets you ask informed questions during the negotiation process.
Understand the H-1B Cap and Project Your Timeline
H-1B cap registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. If you're finishing OPT, map your authorization expiry against that timeline. A STEM OPT extension gives you up to 24 additional months of runway to bridge a gap.

Kiewit posts Electrical Project Engineer openings across multiple regions and they fill quickly. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Kiewit roles that confirm visa sponsorship, so you're applying to verified openings rather than guessing at each posting's sponsorship status.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Kiewit sponsor H-1B visas for Electrical Project Engineers?
Yes, Kiewit sponsors H-1B visas for Electrical Project Engineers. The company has a consistent history of filing H-1B petitions for engineering roles, particularly within its Power and Energy divisions. If you're currently on OPT or another nonimmigrant status, Kiewit's size and project volume make it one of the more viable sponsors in the construction and energy sector.
How do I apply for Electrical Project Engineer jobs at Kiewit?
Apply directly through Kiewit's careers portal or use Migrate Mate to browse verified Electrical Project Engineer openings at Kiewit that confirm visa sponsorship eligibility. Focus your application on Kiewit's Power and Energy business units, tailor your resume to field-based project delivery, and indicate your visa status clearly in the application so the recruiter can route you to the right hiring process.
Which visa types does Kiewit sponsor for Electrical Project Engineer roles?
Kiewit sponsors several visa categories for this role, including H-1B, TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), F-1 OPT and CPT, J-1 visa, and employment-based Green Card pathways such as EB-2 and EB-3. The right category depends on your nationality, degree level, and current status. TN visa is often faster for eligible candidates, while EB-2 and EB-3 PERM filings are typically reserved for longer-tenured employees.
What qualifications does Kiewit expect for Electrical Project Engineer candidates?
Kiewit typically looks for a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and project experience in power, transmission, or substation construction. Familiarity with construction site environments and the ability to manage subcontractors and scheduling are common requirements. Having your EIT certification or being on a PE licensure track is a practical advantage, especially if you're asking the company to invest in visa sponsorship.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process take at Kiewit?
Timeline depends on your current visa status. If you're on F-1 OPT, Kiewit can onboard you while sponsoring an H-1B concurrently, but H-1B cap cases don't start until October 1 following a March registration. TN status for qualifying nationals can be obtained at the border in a single day. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship typically takes two to four years from initiation, depending on your country of birth and DOL processing times.
