Align your portfolio to energy infrastructure systems
Kiewit's software teams support construction, project controls, and energy operations software. Highlight experience with ERP systems, field data platforms, or industrial-scale applications. Generic web development portfolios are less compelling than work tied to engineering or operations contexts.
Target roles that clear the specialty occupation threshold
USCIS requires H-1B positions to qualify as specialty occupations requiring a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Senior software roles at an engineering firm like Kiewit typically meet this bar, but confirm the job description explicitly ties the degree requirement to the technical scope of the work.
Prepare your credentials before the offer stage
If your degree is from outside the United States, get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization before you start interviewing. Kiewit's HR team will need this during the H-1B or PERM filing process, and having it ready avoids delays after an offer is extended.
Understand how PERM affects your long-term timeline
For EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, Kiewit's legal team must complete a DOL PERM labor market test before filing the immigrant petition. That process typically takes six months or more, so raise your long-term authorization goals early in discussions with the recruiting team.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active Kiewit openings
Senior Software Engineering roles at Kiewit are posted across multiple locations and business units. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Kiewit positions that match your visa type so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed, not assumed.
Ask about cap-exempt timing if you're transferring from another employer
If you currently hold H-1B status with another company, Kiewit can file an H-1B transfer outside the annual cap. You can start working for Kiewit as soon as USCIS receives the petition, without waiting for a new cap slot or October 1 start date.

Find Senior Software Engineering at Kiewit JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Kiewit sponsor H-1B visas for Senior Software Engineers?
Yes, Kiewit sponsors H-1B visas for Senior Software Engineering roles. The company operates as a large employer with an established immigration infrastructure, and its technical positions in software development typically satisfy USCIS specialty occupation requirements. If you're already in H-1B status, Kiewit can also file a cap-exempt transfer petition, letting you begin work once USCIS receives the filing.
Which visa types are commonly used for Senior Software Engineering roles at Kiewit?
H-1B is the most common pathway for Senior Software Engineers at Kiewit. The company also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering or computer science roles, and J-1 for certain training arrangements. For permanent residency, Kiewit has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards through the PERM labor certification process.
How do I apply for Senior Software Engineering jobs at Kiewit?
Browse open Senior Software Engineering positions at Kiewit directly through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can identify roles where your authorization needs are already accounted for. Applications go through Kiewit's careers portal. Tailor your resume to emphasize experience with large-scale systems, engineering operations software, or infrastructure technology, which aligns with Kiewit's core business.
What qualifications does Kiewit expect for Senior Software Engineering roles?
Kiewit typically looks for a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field, along with several years of professional software development experience. For senior-level roles, expect an emphasis on systems architecture, backend engineering, or enterprise application development. Experience working within construction, energy, or infrastructure contexts is a differentiator, given Kiewit's project-driven business model.
How do I time my H-1B application if I receive an offer from Kiewit?
If you need a new H-1B cap slot, Kiewit must register you in the USCIS lottery in March for an October 1 start date. If you're selected, the full petition is filed between April and June. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, the transfer process is faster and not subject to the cap, allowing an earlier start date pending USCIS receipt.
