Frame your portfolio around integrated delivery
DLR Group operates as an integrated design firm, so highlight project experience where you worked across architecture, engineering, and construction phases. A portfolio showing coordination across disciplines strengthens your case as a Project Engineer candidate specifically.
Confirm your degree field aligns with H-1B specialty occupation
Project Engineer roles at design-build firms require a degree in civil, structural, mechanical, or architectural engineering to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation standards. A general business or unrelated technical degree creates petition risk even if your work experience is strong.
Target DLR Group studios by sector not just location
DLR Group hires Project Engineers into sector-specific studios covering healthcare, justice, and K-12 education. Applying to a studio aligned with your project history increases relevance and improves your chances of clearing initial screening ahead of visa sponsorship discussions.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Project Engineer roles at DLR Group
Browse Project Engineer openings at DLR Group directly through Migrate Mate, which filters for visa-sponsoring employers in construction and real estate. This saves time researching which postings are open to candidates who need H-1B, TN, or OPT sponsorship.
Time your application to avoid H-1B cap pressure
If you're on F-1 OPT, apply early enough to allow DLR Group to file an H-1B cap petition before your OPT expires. USCIS accepts cap-season petitions starting April 1 for an October 1 start, so back-calculate from your OPT end date.
Clarify TN eligibility if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship
TN status covers engineers with a qualifying degree and a specific engineering job offer. If DLR Group offers a Project Engineer role and you're a Canadian or Mexican citizen, TN can be faster to obtain than H-1B and doesn't carry annual lottery risk.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does DLR Group sponsor H-1B visas for Project Engineers?
Yes, DLR Group sponsors H-1B visas for Project Engineer roles. The company operates across architecture, engineering, and construction sectors where specialty occupation requirements are well-established, making H-1B petitions for qualified engineers straightforward to support. Candidates should confirm sponsorship availability directly with the recruiter during the offer stage, as sponsorship decisions are made at the studio or regional level.
How do I apply for Project Engineer jobs at DLR Group?
Applications go through DLR Group's careers portal, where roles are listed by studio and sector. Tailor your resume and portfolio to reflect integrated project delivery experience, since DLR Group values candidates who have worked across design and construction phases. Migrate Mate also surfaces open Project Engineer roles at DLR Group, filtered for visa sponsorship eligibility, which simplifies the search if you need work authorization support.
Which visa types does DLR Group commonly use for Project Engineer roles?
DLR Group sponsors H-1B visas as the primary long-term work authorization for Project Engineers. F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported, which means students completing engineering degrees in the United States can start in the role before transitioning to H-1B status. Canadian and Mexican nationals may also qualify for TN visa status under the engineer category, offering a faster and lottery-free path to employment.
What qualifications does DLR Group expect for Project Engineer candidates?
DLR Group typically expects a bachelor's degree or higher in civil, structural, mechanical, or architectural engineering for Project Engineer positions. Candidates with experience coordinating between design teams and contractors, managing submittals, or working within integrated project delivery environments are prioritized. Professional Engineer licensure or active pursuit of licensure is viewed favorably, particularly for mid-level openings within the firm's sector-specific studios.
How do I plan the timeline for visa sponsorship at DLR Group as a Project Engineer?
If you're on F-1 OPT, the H-1B cap-season filing window opens April 1 for an October 1 start date. You'll need an offer in place well before March to give DLR Group time to prepare USCIS filings. USCIS premium processing is available if you need an expedited decision. For TN status, processing can happen at a port of entry or consulate, which compresses the timeline significantly compared to the H-1B route.
