Align your portfolio with DLR Group's project types
DLR Group's mechanical work spans K-12 schools, healthcare facilities, justice centers, and corporate interiors. Tailor your resume and project samples to building systems experience in these sectors before applying, since generalist portfolios get screened out early.
Understand TN status requirements for mechanical engineering
Canadian and Mexican engineers can enter under TN status using a mechanical engineering degree, which DOL recognizes as a qualifying TN profession. Confirm your degree title matches DOL's listed occupation exactly, since a mismatch at the border can result in a same-day denial.
Ask about H-1B timing during the offer stage
DLR Group's H-1B filings are tied to USCIS's April lottery window. If you receive an offer in summer or fall, clarify whether sponsorship covers the current cap year or the next, so you can plan your status bridge, whether that's an OPT extension or a status change.
Get your credentials evaluated before interviews
DLR Group operates in a licensed-engineer environment where degree equivalency matters. If your mechanical engineering degree is from outside the U.S., obtain a credential evaluation from a NACES-member agency before your first technical interview to avoid delays once an offer is on the table.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Mechanical Engineer roles
DLR Group posts across multiple office locations with varying project focuses. Use Migrate Mate to filter Mechanical Engineer openings by sponsorship type so you're only targeting positions where your visa category is already supported, not wasting applications on ineligible listings.

Find Mechanical Engineer at DLR Group JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does DLR Group sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers?
Yes, DLR Group sponsors H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers. Mechanical engineering roles qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria, given the degree requirements in the field. Sponsorship is tied to USCIS's annual cap and lottery cycle, so timing your offer relative to the April filing window is critical if you're not already in H-1B status.
How do I apply for Mechanical Engineer jobs at DLR Group?
Applications go through DLR Group's careers portal, where openings are listed by location and practice area. Migrate Mate is the recommended way to browse DLR Group's Mechanical Engineer roles filtered by visa sponsorship type, so you can confirm eligibility before applying. A strong application highlights building systems experience and project types that match DLR Group's core sectors.
Which visa types does DLR Group commonly use for Mechanical Engineer roles?
DLR Group sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for Mechanical Engineers. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates, while TN status is a practical option for Canadian and Mexican engineers whose degree aligns with DOL's listed mechanical engineering occupation. H-1B is the standard long-term path.
What qualifications does DLR Group expect for Mechanical Engineer roles?
DLR Group typically expects a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field, with experience in building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, or electrical coordination. Familiarity with energy modeling tools and experience working on institutional or healthcare projects strengthens your application. Professional Engineer licensure or progress toward it is valued in many roles.
How do I time my application to avoid gaps in work authorization?
If you're on OPT, apply early enough that an offer can be in place before your OPT end date. For H-1B transitions, DLR Group would need to file before the April cap deadline for an October 1 start. The 60-day grace period after OPT expiration does not authorize work, so overlap between your authorization end date and any new filing matters significantly.
