The RAPID division is the world leading provider of reticle inspection solutions for the semiconductor industry. The company provides inspection solutions to both the mask shops and the semiconductor fabs to ensure that lithography yields are consistently high thus enabling cost-effective manufacturing.
Job Description/Preferred Qualifications
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer (mid-level) to design and develop gas, water, and vacuum distribution systems for next-generation reticle inspection systems. This role focuses on fluid delivery and control architectures operating in ultra-high vacuum (UHV) environments, supporting system performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
You will work cross-functionally with systems, electrical, process, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust solutions from concept through production release.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop gas, liquid cooling (water), and vacuum distribution systems for UHV semiconductor equipment
- Create system architectures including piping/tubing layouts, manifolds, valves, regulators, and filtration components
- Perform flow, pressure, and thermal analyses to ensure system performance and stability
- Develop and release detailed CAD models, drawings, and BOMs using enterprise PLM systems
- Ensure designs meet UHV compatibility requirements (materials selection, cleanliness, leak integrity, outgassing)
- Conduct and support design reviews (PDR, CDR) and failure mode analysis (FMEA)
- Partner with suppliers to define specifications and qualify components (valves, fittings, pumps, sensors)
- Support prototype builds, integration, and system bring-up, including troubleshooting fluid/vacuum issues
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to ensure DFM/DFA and scalable production
- Drive continuous improvement for reliability, cost, and serviceability of fluid systems
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience designing fluid systems (gas, liquid, or vacuum)
- Familiarity with vacuum systems, including pumps, seals, leak detection, and pressure regimes
- Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX)
- Understanding of materials and compatibility for clean and vacuum environments
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems and contamination control
- Knowledge of EUV systems or semiconductor process equipment
- Experience with thermal management and cooling systems
- Familiarity with CFD or flow simulation tools
- Understanding of industry standards (e.g., SEMI, ASME B31.3 for piping where applicable)
- Experience working in NPI (New Product Introduction) environments
Key Competencies
- Systems thinking and ability to work across disciplines
- Attention to detail in high-precision environments
- Strong communication and technical documentation skills
- Ownership mindset from concept through release
What You’ll Work On
- High-performance vacuum and gas delivery architectures enabling EUV inspection
- Precision cooling systems for thermal stability at nanometer-level accuracy
- Complex integration challenges where mechanical, fluid, and vacuum systems intersect
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 5 years
Base Pay Range: $117,800.00 - $200,300.00 Annually
Primary Location: USA-CA-Milpitas-KLA

Align your experience with KLA's equipment portfolio
KLA builds process control and inspection equipment for semiconductor fabs. Framing your resume around precision tolerances, cleanroom-compatible assemblies, or thermal and vibration analysis signals direct relevance to the mechanical systems engineers work on day-to-day.
Target KLA roles tied to specific product lines
KLA posts Mechanical Engineer openings across distinct divisions like wafer inspection, packaging, and reticle systems. Applying to roles within a product line you have adjacent experience in strengthens your petition's specialty occupation argument when USCIS reviews the H-1B filing.
Confirm your OPT or STEM extension timeline early
If you're on F-1 OPT, map your authorization end date against KLA's typical hiring cycle. A STEM OPT extension gives you up to 24 additional months, but your employer must be E-Verify enrolled, which KLA is as a federal contractor in the semiconductor space.
Request clarity on LCA wage levels before negotiating
KLA files a Labor Condition Application with DOL before your H-1B can be submitted. The LCA locks in a prevailing wage level for your job title and location. Knowing which wage level applies to your offer helps you assess whether the role is filed at a tier matching your experience.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Mechanical Engineer roles at KLA
Visa-sponsoring roles at large manufacturers can be hard to filter on general job boards. Migrate Mate surfaces KLA's Mechanical Engineer openings alongside confirmed sponsorship data, so you spend less time guessing which listings are open to sponsored candidates.
Prepare for PERM documentation if targeting permanent residence
KLA sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for engineering staff, which requires a PERM labor certification through DOL. Gathering your foreign degree equivalency documentation and any required credential evaluations before the process starts prevents delays once your employer initiates the filing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does KLA sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers?
Yes, KLA sponsors H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers. The company has a consistent history of filing H-1B petitions for engineering roles across its semiconductor equipment divisions. Because KLA participates in the H-1B lottery cycle, the strongest path is to have an offer in place before the March registration window so your employer can submit on your behalf.
How do I apply for Mechanical Engineer jobs at KLA?
Applications go through KLA's careers portal at kla.com/careers. Search by job function or keyword for Mechanical Engineer openings and filter by location. Roles in Milpitas, Ann Arbor, and Beaverton are among the most active for this discipline. You can also browse KLA's open Mechanical Engineer positions that confirm visa sponsorship eligibility through Migrate Mate, which surfaces these listings in one place.
Which visa types does KLA commonly use for Mechanical Engineer roles?
KLA sponsors H-1B visas as the primary work authorization path for Mechanical Engineers. The company also supports F-1 OPT and STEM OPT for recent graduates, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles, J-1 visa for certain training or research positions, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for longer-term permanent residence pathways.
What qualifications does KLA expect for Mechanical Engineer candidates?
Most Mechanical Engineer roles at KLA require a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. Roles involving optical or semiconductor equipment often favor candidates with coursework or project experience in precision mechanics, thermal management, or materials science. Senior positions typically expect experience with CAD tools like SolidWorks or CATIA and familiarity with GD&T standards used in high-tolerance manufacturing environments.
How do I time my application if I'm on OPT and targeting an H-1B at KLA?
The H-1B cap registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you're selected in the lottery, a cap-gap provision automatically extends your work authorization through September 30. Confirm your OPT end date early and align your KLA application timeline so an offer can be in place before the USCIS registration window opens.
