Align Your Credentials to AEC Project Delivery
DLR Group's mechanical roles sit within integrated design-build teams. Frame your resume around full project lifecycle experience, from schematic design through construction administration, not just equipment sizing or load calculations in isolation.
Target Offices With Active Project Pipelines
DLR Group operates studios across the country with varying workloads. Research which offices are delivering active K-12, healthcare, or federal projects, since those studios are most likely to have open headcount that justifies sponsorship paperwork.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Sponsoring MEP Firms
Construction and real estate employers vary widely on sponsorship willingness. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Mechanical Project Engineer openings at firms with documented sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to companies that don't sponsor.
Request the H-1B Filing Timeline at Offer Stage
H-1B cap petitions must be filed by USCIS's April 1 deadline for an October 1 start. If you receive an offer outside that window, ask the recruiter directly whether the role qualifies for a cap-exempt filing or whether premium processing will be used.
Document Your OPT STEM Extension Before It Lapses
F-1 graduates in engineering qualify for a 24-month STEM OPT extension. Submit your STEM OPT application to your DSO at least 90 days before your initial OPT expires, giving DLR Group's HR team a clear authorized work window while an H-1B petition is prepared.

Find Mechanical Project Engineer at DLR Group JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does DLR Group sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanical Project Engineers?
Yes, DLR Group has a documented history of sponsoring H-1B visas for Mechanical Project Engineers. Sponsorship is typically tied to specific project needs and office headcount, so your strongest path is applying to studios with active pipelines in sectors like healthcare, education, or federal facilities, where demand for licensed MEP engineers is consistent.
Which visa types does DLR Group commonly use for Mechanical Project Engineer roles?
DLR Group has sponsored H-1B visas for Mechanical Project Engineers and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates in engineering programs. Canadian and Mexican engineers may also qualify for TN status, which does not require an USCIS petition and can be obtained at a port of entry with an offer letter and engineering credentials.
What qualifications does DLR Group expect for a Mechanical Project Engineer?
DLR Group typically looks for a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and experience with HVAC, plumbing, or fire protection systems in commercial or institutional projects. Proficiency with design software like Revit MEP is expected. A PE license or active pursuit of licensure is a strong differentiator, particularly for senior project-level roles handling construction administration.
How do I apply for Mechanical Project Engineer jobs at DLR Group?
You can browse and apply for Mechanical Project Engineer openings at DLR Group directly through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles with confirmed sponsorship history so you know the position is open to visa holders before you apply. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific studio's project type, whether that's K-12, healthcare, or civic work, since DLR Group's hiring is studio-driven.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship at DLR Group?
The H-1B cap lottery opens in March each year, with petitions filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT, time your job search so you have an offer in hand before February, giving the legal team enough lead time to prepare the petition. If you miss the cap cycle, ask whether the role qualifies for a cap-exempt filing through an affiliated research or nonprofit entity.
