Target roles with documented H-1B history
Atlantic Health's H-1B filings reveal which departments have sponsored work visas before. Clinical informatics, biomedical engineering, and health services administration roles tend to have the clearest sponsorship track record, so start your search there rather than applying broadly.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Before signing an offer with Atlantic Health, confirm their active E-Verify participation status so your extension eligibility isn't at risk after your first 12 months.
Use Migrate Mate to map Atlantic Health's sponsorship footprint
Migrate Mate surfaces Atlantic Health's Labor Condition Application filing history by occupation code, so you can see which roles have supported visa sponsorship and approach your application with evidence rather than guessing about the company's willingness to sponsor.
Align your degree field to the role's specialty
Atlantic Health operates in a credentialed environment where job descriptions specify required degree fields. A healthcare informatics role tied to your information systems degree is a stronger OPT match than a general administrative posting, which affects both your hire and any future H-1B petition.
Request a Form I-983 training plan early
For STEM OPT, USCIS requires a signed Form I-983 training plan between you and your employer. Ask Atlantic Health's HR team to begin drafting it before your 12-month standard OPT window closes, not after, to avoid gaps in your work authorization.
Benchmark your salary against OFLC prevailing wage data
Atlantic Health must pay H-1B holders the prevailing wage if they later sponsor you. Before negotiating your OPT offer, use the OFLC Wage Search to check the wage level for your occupation in New Jersey so your starting salary doesn't create a gap at the H-1B stage.
Atlantic Health OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Atlantic Health sponsor OPT visas?
Atlantic Health doesn't sponsor OPT directly. OPT is work authorization granted by USCIS to eligible F-1 students, not something an employer files for. What Atlantic Health does is hire students who already hold an OPT Employment Authorization Document. Its track record of H-1B filings suggests it's open to employing and later sponsoring international candidates in qualifying roles.
Which departments at Atlantic Health typically hire OPT students?
Clinical informatics, biomedical engineering, health services administration, and allied health roles have historically aligned with the specialty occupation criteria that support later visa sponsorship at Atlantic Health. Departments tied to direct patient care may have stricter licensure requirements that can complicate OPT eligibility, so target roles where your degree field directly maps to the job description.
How do I approach the OPT hiring process at Atlantic Health?
You apply through Atlantic Health's standard hiring process with your OPT Employment Authorization Document in hand. Once you receive an offer, work with HR to complete Form I-9 using your EAD. For STEM OPT, you'll also need a signed Form I-983 training plan. Use Migrate Mate to identify which Atlantic Health roles have supported visa sponsorship before you apply, so you target the right positions.
How do I know if Atlantic Health will sponsor my H-1B after OPT?
Atlantic Health's history of H-1B filings is the clearest signal of sponsorship intent. Roles in specialty occupation categories with a clear degree requirement are the most likely candidates for H-1B sponsorship once your OPT period ends. Raise the topic during the offer stage, not after you've started, and ask specifically whether the role has a path to long-term visa sponsorship.
What timeline should I plan for when OPT expires at Atlantic Health?
Standard OPT lasts 12 months. If you qualify for the STEM extension, you get an additional 24 months, provided Atlantic Health is enrolled in E-Verify. H-1B petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start, so if your OPT ends mid-year, cap-gap protections may bridge the gap. Plan your OPT end date against the H-1B lottery calendar from the moment you accept an offer.
How does Atlantic Health hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Atlantic Health can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Atlantic Health's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
