Match your degree to BayCare's specialty areas
BayCare's hiring concentrates in nursing support, health informatics, medical imaging, and healthcare administration. Align your resume to one of these tracks before applying. Review O*NET profiles for your target role to confirm the degree-to-job match before your OPT EAD arrives.
Confirm STEM OPT eligibility before accepting an offer
If your degree qualifies for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, verify that BayCare is enrolled in E-Verify before signing an offer. E-Verify enrollment is a USCIS requirement for STEM OPT, and healthcare employers of this size typically maintain it, but you should confirm directly with HR.
Start your OPT authorization timeline early
Your DSO can file your OPT EAD application with USCIS up to 90 days before your program end date. USCIS processing takes up to three to four months, so target BayCare roles that have a start date aligning with your authorized OPT window to avoid a gap.
Ask HR about BayCare's H-1B transition history
During interviews, ask whether the department has previously transitioned OPT employees to H-1B sponsorship. BayCare sponsors H-1B and EB-2/EB-3 visas, so knowing which teams have done this before tells you where long-term sponsorship is a realistic path, not just a stated policy.
Use Migrate Mate to identify BayCare's verified filing roles
Before you apply, use Migrate Mate to review BayCare's DOL Labor Condition Application filing history by job title. This shows which roles the system has actively filed for, helping you target positions where visa sponsorship is already part of the hiring pattern rather than an exception.
Prepare a prevailing wage benchmark before salary negotiations
Look up the wage level for your target job title and Florida location using the OFLC Wage Search before any offer discussion. BayCare must meet DOL prevailing wage standards for future visa filings, so knowing the threshold helps you evaluate whether an offer supports a viable sponsorship path.
BayCare Health System OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does BayCare Health System sponsor OPT visas?
BayCare Health System doesn't sponsor OPT directly. OPT is work authorization granted by USCIS to F-1 students, not a petition filed by an employer. What BayCare does is hire students who already hold an OPT Employment Authorization Document. For STEM OPT extensions, BayCare's E-Verify enrollment is required, which large health systems like BayCare typically maintain.
Which roles and departments at BayCare Health System typically hire OPT students?
BayCare most commonly hires OPT students in health informatics, clinical operations support, medical imaging, healthcare administration, and nursing support roles. Departments with ongoing project-based work, such as IT and quality improvement, also bring in OPT candidates. Roles tied to degree programs in health sciences, information systems, or public health tend to be the strongest fit.
How do I apply for OPT-eligible positions at BayCare Health System?
Apply through BayCare's careers portal and disclose your OPT status when asked about work authorization. Your EAD must already be approved or in process before your start date. Migrate Mate can help you identify which BayCare job titles have existing DOL filing history, so you can prioritize roles where long-term sponsorship is already established.
How do I know if BayCare Health System will support STEM OPT extension?
STEM OPT requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Before accepting an offer, confirm BayCare's E-Verify status with their HR or talent acquisition team. Large regional health systems with federal contracts are typically enrolled, but verifying before you commit protects your ability to file the 24-month extension with USCIS through your DSO.
Does BayCare Health System sponsor H-1B for employees who start on OPT?
BayCare Health System does sponsor H-1B visas, and transitioning from OPT to H-1B is a path some employees take after demonstrating performance. The H-1B process is separate from OPT and requires BayCare to file a petition with USCIS. During hiring, ask the specific department whether prior OPT-to-H-1B transitions have occurred there.
How does BayCare Health System hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. BayCare Health System can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check BayCare Health System's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
