Target roles aligned with your degree
Beth Israel Lahey Health hires OPT students most consistently in clinical operations, health informatics, and biomedical research. Map your degree field to open roles before applying, a mismatch between your major and job function is the fastest way to lose OPT eligibility.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting
STEM OPT extensions require your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Before signing an offer, verify that the specific Beth Israel Lahey Health entity hiring you is enrolled, large health systems sometimes have subsidiaries with separate E-Verify registrations that need individual confirmation.
Build your H-1B case during OPT
Beth Israel Lahey Health has a track record of sponsoring H-1B visas for employees it values. Use your OPT period to document specialty occupation evidence: save job descriptions, performance reviews, and credentialing records that support a future H-1B petition tied to your clinical or technical role.
Research prevailing wages before negotiating
Pull the wage level for your occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search before your offer discussion. Healthcare roles at Beth Israel Lahey Health must meet DOL prevailing wage requirements for any future H-1B LCA filing, so knowing the floor protects you from being underpaid later.
Use Migrate Mate to identify sponsoring entities
Beth Israel Lahey Health operates across multiple hospitals and affiliates. Use Migrate Mate to filter which specific entities within the system have active H-1B filing history for your occupation, so you target the right hiring managers rather than applying broadly across the health network.
Time your application around USCIS cap deadlines
H-1B cap registration typically opens in March for an October 1 start. If your OPT ends before October, USCIS cap-gap rules extend your work authorization automatically while your petition is pending, but only if your employer files before your OPT EAD expires.
Beth Israel Lahey Health OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Beth Israel Lahey Health sponsor OPT visas?
Beth Israel Lahey Health doesn't sponsor OPT directly, USCIS grants OPT authorization to F-1 students, not employers. What Beth Israel Lahey Health does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD. For STEM OPT extensions, the employing entity must be enrolled in E-Verify, which is worth confirming before you accept an offer.
Which departments at Beth Israel Lahey Health typically hire OPT students?
OPT students find the most traction in clinical research, health informatics, biomedical engineering, and hospital administration roles. Graduate programs in public health, nursing informatics, and healthcare analytics also align well with open positions across the Beth Israel Lahey Health network, particularly at its academic medical centers.
How do I approach the OPT hiring process at Beth Israel Lahey Health?
Apply through Beth Israel Lahey Health's careers portal and disclose your OPT status clearly in the application. Bring your EAD, I-20 with OPT authorization, and passport to any offer stage. HR will run an I-9 verification through E-Verify. Confirm whether the specific hiring entity is enrolled in E-Verify if you're pursuing a STEM extension.
How do I find OPT-compatible jobs at Beth Israel Lahey Health on Migrate Mate?
Migrate Mate lets you filter employers by H-1B filing history and visa sponsorship activity, which helps you identify which Beth Israel Lahey Health entities have the strongest track record of transitioning OPT students to longer-term sponsorship. Search by role type and location to narrow down the right hiring teams within the health system.
Does Beth Israel Lahey Health sponsor H-1B visas after OPT ends?
Beth Israel Lahey Health has sponsored H-1B visas for employees in clinical, research, and technical roles. OPT is often a proving ground for that transition. The H-1B process is separate from OPT and requires your employer to file an I-129 petition with USCIS, typically timed around the annual cap registration period in March.
How does Beth Israel Lahey Health hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Beth Israel Lahey Health can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Beth Israel Lahey Health's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
