Target clinical informatics and health data roles
Corewell Health's integrated health system creates consistent demand for roles in clinical informatics, health data analytics, and healthcare IT. These positions align well with STEM OPT eligibility, giving you a stronger runway before any H-1B transition becomes necessary.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Your 24-month STEM OPT extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Before signing an offer, verify Corewell Health's enrollment status directly through E-Verify's employer search so your extension eligibility isn't at risk after you start.
Align your degree field to your specific job title
USCIS requires that your OPT position directly relate to your degree's field of study. At Corewell Health, map your exact job title to your degree before applying. A public health degree supports epidemiology roles but may not satisfy requirements for a clinical nursing position.
Use Migrate Mate to identify Corewell Health's H-1B filing history
Before committing to an OPT role, research whether Corewell Health has consistently filed H-1B petitions for that department and job title. Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by employer and role, so you can verify sponsorship patterns specific to your target position.
Submit your OPT EAD application 90 days early
USCIS recommends applying for your OPT EAD up to 90 days before your program end date. A delayed application compresses your authorized work window, which can complicate your start date negotiations with Corewell Health's HR team during onboarding.
Request a written H-1B sponsorship commitment during offer negotiation
Corewell Health's willingness to sponsor H-1B varies by department and role criticality. Before accepting your OPT offer, ask directly whether the team has sponsored H-1B for that position before and request any sponsorship commitment in writing to avoid ambiguity at the 60-day filing window.
Corewell Health OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Corewell Health sponsor OPT visas?
Corewell Health does not sponsor OPT directly. OPT is work authorization USCIS grants to eligible F-1 students, not something employers petition for. What Corewell Health does is hire OPT students across clinical, research, and healthcare operations roles. For STEM OPT extensions, Corewell Health's E-Verify enrollment is required and supports your eligibility.
Which departments at Corewell Health typically hire OPT students?
OPT students at Corewell Health most commonly find roles in health informatics, clinical research, population health, and healthcare administration. Technology and data-focused positions within its integrated health system tend to align well with STEM OPT eligibility, giving graduates in relevant fields stronger options for the 24-month extension.
How do I apply for OPT jobs at Corewell Health?
Apply through Corewell Health's careers portal with your active OPT EAD or pending EAD documentation ready. Disclose your OPT status clearly in the application. Use Migrate Mate to research which Corewell Health departments have H-1B filing history before applying, so you're targeting roles most likely to support a long-term visa path.
How long does the OPT hiring process typically take at Corewell Health?
Healthcare hiring at large systems like Corewell Health typically runs four to eight weeks from application to offer. Factor in your OPT EAD expiration date when applying. If you're pursuing the STEM OPT extension, your DSO must recommend it in SEVIS before USCIS receives the application, so start that process well before your standard OPT ends.
Does Corewell Health support the H-1B transition after OPT?
Corewell Health has a documented H-1B sponsorship history, particularly in clinical and technical roles. Transition support varies by department, so the strongest approach is to confirm sponsorship willingness for your specific job title before accepting an OPT offer. Researching Corewell Health's LCA filing history by role through USCIS records helps set realistic expectations early.
How does Corewell Health hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Corewell Health can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Corewell Health's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
