Align your degree to DoorDash's technical roles
DoorDash's OPT hires cluster in software engineering, machine learning, and data analytics. Pull the O*NET profile for your target role and confirm the degree field listed matches your diploma exactly. A mismatch between your major and the job's typical education requirement can complicate STEM OPT eligibility later.
Apply during DoorDash's new-grad hiring window
DoorDash runs a structured university recruiting cycle that opens in late summer and peaks through October. OPT students with EADs expiring within six months should apply early in this window so their authorization timeline aligns with DoorDash's offer and onboarding schedule without requiring a rushed STEM extension.
Verify DoorDash's E-Verify enrollment before accepting
STEM OPT extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm DoorDash's enrollment status through E-Verify directly before signing an offer. If your hiring team can't confirm it, ask HR explicitly. An employer not enrolled in E-Verify disqualifies you from the 24-month STEM extension entirely.
Use Migrate Mate to track DoorDash's H-1B filing history
Your OPT runway is finite, so knowing DoorDash's H-1B sponsorship track record before you accept matters. Use Migrate Mate to review DoorDash's LCA filings by role and location. This tells you which job families DoorDash has historically sponsored and whether your target team has a pattern of filing.
Request a STEM-designated offer letter from HR
Your DSO needs a formal training plan and an offer letter confirming the role qualifies under your CIP code to approve the STEM OPT extension. Ask DoorDash's HR team for this documentation before your initial OPT EAD expires. Waiting until the last 90 days creates filing risk if revisions are needed.
Benchmark your salary against OFLC Wage Search before negotiating
DoorDash's H-1B filings must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to find the wage level for your occupation code in the San Francisco or New York metro area. Negotiating above that threshold now positions you cleanly for DoorDash's future LCA filing.
DoorDash OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does DoorDash sponsor OPT visas?
DoorDash doesn't sponsor OPT itself. OPT is work authorization USCIS grants directly to F-1 students. What DoorDash does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD. For STEM OPT, DoorDash's E-Verify enrollment is required to qualify for the 24-month extension, which you apply for through your DSO.
Which departments at DoorDash typically hire OPT students?
DoorDash's strongest OPT hiring concentrates in software engineering, machine learning, data science, and product management. These roles typically require STEM degrees that qualify students for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Operations and strategy teams also hire OPT students, though those roles may not carry STEM designation depending on your degree field.
How do I confirm my DoorDash role qualifies for STEM OPT extension?
Your DSO determines STEM OPT eligibility based on whether your degree's CIP code matches an approved STEM field and whether your employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Before accepting a DoorDash offer, ask HR to confirm E-Verify enrollment and work with your DSO to verify your CIP code alignment. USCIS publishes the official STEM-designated degree list.
What is the timeline for OPT students transitioning to H-1B at DoorDash?
OPT students typically use their initial 12-month EAD plus the 24-month STEM extension for up to 36 months of authorized work. DoorDash would file your H-1B petition during the April lottery window. If selected, your H-1B takes effect October 1. Cap-gap protects your status between OPT expiration and October 1 if USCIS receives your petition before your EAD expires.
How do I find and apply for OPT-friendly roles at DoorDash?
Use Migrate Mate to search DoorDash's verified LCA filing history by role type and location before applying. This helps you identify which teams have an active H-1B sponsorship pattern, which is a strong signal of long-term support for work visa holders. Apply through DoorDash's careers portal and note your OPT EAD expiration date clearly in recruiter conversations.
How does DoorDash hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. DoorDash can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check DoorDash's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
