Target Epic's technical implementation teams
Epic's implementation and technical services divisions hire OPT students at higher rates than its core R&D teams. Search for roles with titles like Technical Project Manager or Implementation Consultant, where your degree in CS, engineering, or health informatics maps directly to the job description.
Verify your STEM OPT eligibility before applying
If your degree is in a STEM-designated field, you're eligible for a 24-month OPT extension after your initial 12 months. Epic is enrolled in E-Verify, which is required for your employer to support your STEM OPT extension, so confirm your CIP code with your DSO early.
Align your resume to Epic's specialty occupation standard
Epic evaluates candidates against specific technical competencies tied to its software ecosystem. Frame your coursework and projects around healthcare IT, database systems, or enterprise software to signal you meet the specialty occupation standard Epic expects for the roles it fills with OPT students.
Use Migrate Mate to find Epic's verified sponsorship history
Before you apply, check Epic's DOL Labor Condition Application filing history on Migrate Mate. You can filter by role and location to see which job titles Epic has actively supported for work authorization, so you're targeting positions with a real precedent rather than guessing.
Start your H-1B conversation at the offer stage
Epic has a track record of sponsoring H-1B visas for employees who started on OPT. During the offer or onboarding stage, ask HR directly whether your role is eligible for H-1B sponsorship after OPT, and get clarity on their internal timeline for initiating the process.
Document your OPT end date in every recruiter conversation
Epic's hiring cycle can run several months, so give recruiters your OPT expiration date upfront. If you're within 90 days of expiration, explain whether a STEM extension is available. This prevents late-stage surprises and helps Epic's HR team plan your authorization window accurately.
Epic OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Epic sponsor OPT visas?
Epic doesn't sponsor OPT itself -- OPT work authorization is granted by USCIS directly to you as an F-1 student. What Epic does is hire students who already hold a valid OPT EAD. For STEM OPT extensions, Epic's E-Verify enrollment means it can support your 24-month extension request through your DSO.
Which roles at Epic are most accessible for OPT students?
Technical implementation, software development, and technical project management roles are where OPT students most commonly land at Epic. These positions align well with STEM-designated degrees in computer science, information systems, and engineering. Implementation Consultants and Software Developers are among the titles most frequently filled by candidates on OPT authorization.
How do I know if my OPT authorization timeline works with Epic's hiring process?
Epic's full recruiting cycle, from application to start date, can take several months. Check your OPT expiration date before applying and calculate whether you have enough authorization remaining to clear the process. If you're applying near the end of your initial OPT period, confirm your STEM extension eligibility with your DSO and communicate that clearly to Epic's recruiter.
Does Epic sponsor H-1B visas for OPT employees?
Yes, Epic has a history of sponsoring H-1B visas for employees who started on OPT. The transition typically begins well before your OPT expires, since H-1B registration opens in March each year for an October 1 start date. Use Migrate Mate to review Epic's H-1B visa Labor Condition Application history by job title and location before accepting an offer.
How do I position myself as a strong OPT candidate for Epic?
Epic looks for candidates whose academic background maps directly to its healthcare IT platform. Degrees in computer science, software engineering, health informatics, or related STEM fields carry the most weight. Highlight any coursework, capstone projects, or internships involving enterprise software, database systems, or clinical workflows. Apply early in Epic's recruiting cycle, as its campus hiring timelines are structured and competitive.
How does Epic hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Epic can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Epic's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
