Target roles matching your SOC code
Erlanger's OPT-compatible postings cluster in clinical operations, health informatics, and administrative support. Cross-reference your F-1 EAD's authorized occupation category with Erlanger's open roles using O*NET to confirm the job title aligns with your degree field before applying.
Confirm Erlanger's E-Verify enrollment early
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify before your standard 12-month period expires. Ask Erlanger's HR team to confirm active E-Verify participation during the offer stage so your DSO can begin the extension request without delays.
Negotiate your start date around EAD timing
USCIS recommends filing the OPT EAD application up to 90 days before your program end date. Build that window into your offer negotiation with Erlanger so your authorization card arrives before your intended first day, avoiding gaps that could complicate onboarding in a regulated healthcare environment.
Research Erlanger's H-1B filing history
Before accepting an OPT role, verify that Erlanger has a track record of converting OPT employees to H-1B. Use Migrate Mate to search Erlanger's Labor Condition Application history by occupation code and confirm the company actively files for healthcare and technical roles similar to yours.
Benchmark your salary against prevailing wage data
Erlanger must pay H-1B holders at or above the DOL prevailing wage if sponsorship follows your OPT period. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up wage levels for your occupation and metro area now, so you can evaluate whether Erlanger's OPT offer reflects a realistic H-1B salary floor.
Submit your training plan before your OPT start date
STEM OPT requires a formal Training Plan signed by both you and a qualified Erlanger supervisor before your extension is approved. Initiate that conversation with your hiring manager during onboarding, not at the 12-month mark, so the document is ready when your DSO files with USCIS.
Erlanger OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Erlanger sponsor OPT visas?
Erlanger doesn't sponsor OPT itself because OPT is work authorization USCIS grants directly to eligible F-1 students. What Erlanger does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD. If Erlanger is enrolled in E-Verify, it can also support the STEM OPT 24-month extension for qualifying graduates in healthcare and technical fields.
Which departments at Erlanger typically hire OPT students?
Erlanger hires OPT students most consistently in health informatics, clinical operations support, allied health, and administrative roles tied to its regional hospital network. Graduates with degrees in health sciences, public health, information systems, or business analytics tend to find the strongest alignment with Erlanger's posted OPT-compatible positions.
How do I confirm Erlanger will support my STEM OPT extension?
Ask Erlanger's HR team directly whether the company is enrolled in E-Verify before you accept an offer. STEM OPT requires active E-Verify enrollment at the time of your extension filing. You can also search Erlanger's employer profile on Migrate Mate to see its H-1B filing history, which signals long-term sponsorship intent for strong performers.
How do I time my OPT application when interviewing with Erlanger?
File your OPT EAD application up to 90 days before your program end date, per USCIS rules. When discussing a start date with Erlanger, build in enough lead time for your card to arrive. Most EAD applications take one to three months to process, so apply as early as USCIS allows to avoid onboarding delays.
Does Erlanger sponsor H-1B visas after OPT ends?
Erlanger has sponsored H-1B visas for employees in healthcare and technical roles. OPT and H-1B are separate processes: your OPT EAD covers initial employment, and H-1B sponsorship requires Erlanger to file a separate USCIS petition. Confirm Erlanger's intent to sponsor H-1B during the offer stage so you can plan around the annual April filing deadline.
How does Erlanger hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Erlanger can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Erlanger's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
