Align your credentials to clinical role requirements
Fairview's hiring teams screen healthcare candidates against licensure and degree requirements before interviews begin. Confirm your OPT EAD covers the intended start date and that your degree field maps directly to the role's listed qualifications in the job posting.
Target departments with recurring OPT hiring patterns
Fairview Health Services regularly fills roles in nursing support, health informatics, pharmacy, and care coordination. These departments run on project cycles and grad-school pipelines, so they're more likely to be comfortable onboarding someone on OPT authorization than teams without that history.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting a STEM offer
If your degree qualifies for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify for USCIS to approve the extension. Ask Fairview's HR team to confirm enrollment status during the offer stage, not after you've already accepted.
Use Migrate Mate to identify Fairview's visa filing history
Before applying, pull Fairview Health Services's DOL Labor Condition Application data on Migrate Mate to see which job titles and locations they've historically filed for. That filing pattern tells you where OPT-to-H-1B transitions are most likely to be supported internally.
Research prevailing wage bands for your target role
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your intended job title and location before negotiating your offer. Fairview operates across Minnesota and the upper Midwest, so wage levels vary by facility and county, affecting both your offer and any future H-1B filing.
Initiate H-1B transition conversations early in your OPT period
H-1B cap registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. If you're hired in a fall cohort, your 12-month OPT may expire before a cap-subject H-1B takes effect. Surface this timeline with Fairview's HR or legal team within your first few months on the job.
Fairview Health Services OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Fairview Health Services sponsor OPT visas?
Fairview Health Services doesn't sponsor OPT directly, OPT is work authorization issued by USCIS to the F-1 student, not a visa filed by the employer. What Fairview does is hire students who already hold a valid OPT EAD. If your authorization is in place, Fairview can onboard you without filing anything on your behalf for OPT itself.
Which roles at Fairview Health Services are most likely to hire OPT students?
Fairview most commonly brings OPT students into health informatics, clinical operations support, pharmacy, and care coordination roles. Administrative and data-focused positions in their corporate and hospital operations teams also see regular hiring from graduate programs, particularly where candidates hold degrees in health sciences, public health, or information systems.
How do I start the application process at Fairview Health Services as an OPT student?
Apply through Fairview's careers portal and flag your OPT authorization status in your application materials. During the interview process, confirm your EAD start and end dates with the recruiter so they can plan your onboarding timeline. If your degree qualifies for a STEM extension, ask HR to verify E-Verify enrollment before accepting any offer.
How do I know if Fairview Health Services will support an H-1B sponsorship after OPT?
Fairview sponsors H-1B visas and has a track record of supporting transitions from OPT for employees in qualifying roles. To gauge your specific role's likelihood, use Migrate Mate to review Fairview's DOL filing history by job title and location. Raise the H-1B timeline with HR within your first quarter on the job, since cap registration windows are fixed each spring.
What is the typical timeline for starting work at Fairview Health Services on OPT?
Your OPT EAD must be valid on your first day of work. USCIS processing for OPT can take several months after your program end date, so apply early through your Designated School Official. Once your EAD arrives, Fairview can complete I-9 verification and onboard you. Factor in any clinical credentialing requirements, which can add weeks for patient-facing roles.
How does Fairview Health Services hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Fairview Health Services can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Fairview Health Services's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
