Target GFT's fintech and digital roles
GFT's hiring in technology and software centers on financial services transformation, so align your resume to fintech, cloud infrastructure, or data engineering. Roles in these verticals at GFT are consistently staffed with international talent and carry stronger OPT compatibility than support or administrative functions.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Before signing with GFT, verify their E-Verify status directly through the E-Verify employer search. Missing this step before your 12-month OPT expires leaves no recovery window for the extension.
Check your OPT EAD start date against GFT's onboarding
You can only begin working once your OPT EAD is active and your start date matches or follows it. Coordinate your USCIS EAD approval timeline with GFT's onboarding schedule early, since delays in EAD delivery can push back your first day without any fault on the employer's side.
Research prevailing wages for your GFT role
When GFT eventually sponsors your H-1B, your offered salary must meet DOL prevailing wage standards for your job title and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search before your offer negotiation so you understand the wage floor for your role, and avoid accepting below-threshold compensation that could complicate the H-1B filing later.
Use Migrate Mate to surface GFT's H-1B filing history
OPT is your entry point, but the H-1B transition is the goal. Use Migrate Mate to review GFT's H-1B Labor Condition Application history by job title and location, so you understand which roles they've sponsored before and can target your application toward teams with a demonstrated sponsorship track record.
Map your degree to your GFT job title using O*NET
For STEM OPT, your degree field must be directly related to your job function. Use O*NET to identify the Standard Occupational Classification code for your GFT role and confirm it aligns with your declared major, since a mismatch will make your DSO's STEM OPT recommendation ineligible for USCIS approval.
GFT OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does GFT sponsor OPT visas?
GFT doesn't sponsor OPT directly, since OPT is work authorization USCIS grants to the F-1 student, not a visa the employer files. What GFT does is hire students who already hold an active OPT EAD. GFT also has a track record of sponsoring H-1B visas for employees who transition out of OPT, making it a viable long-term employer for international students.
Which roles and departments at GFT typically hire OPT students?
GFT's technology and software focus means the strongest OPT hiring occurs in software engineering, data science, cloud infrastructure, and financial technology consulting. These teams work on client-facing transformation projects where degree-aligned technical skills are required, which also maps well to STEM OPT eligibility criteria under USCIS guidelines.
How do I know if GFT is enrolled in E-Verify for STEM OPT?
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to participate in E-Verify. You can confirm GFT's enrollment status using the E-Verify employer search tool maintained by the federal government. Do this before your 12-month OPT period ends, not after you've accepted an offer, since reenrolling or switching employers mid-OPT is far more complicated.
What is the timeline for transitioning from OPT to H-1B at GFT?
GFT would need to file your H-1B petition during the annual registration window each March, with employment starting October 1 if selected. USCIS's lottery-based selection means timing matters. Most candidates use their 12-month OPT, then a 24-month STEM OPT extension, to stay authorized through multiple lottery cycles while GFT pursues H-1B sponsorship.
How do I find OPT-compatible job openings at GFT?
Search GFT's careers page filtering by technology and software roles, then verify OPT compatibility by reviewing job requirements against your degree and USCIS-authorized occupation. Migrate Mate can also surface GFT's H-1B Labor Condition Application filings by role type, giving you a clearer picture of which teams have sponsored international employees before and are more likely to hire OPT students.
How does GFT hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. GFT can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check GFT's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
