Target Moffitt's research-focused departments first
Moffitt's strongest OPT hiring happens in clinical research coordination, bioinformatics, and population science. These teams regularly bring on F-1 students for project-based roles that align with degree requirements, making them your highest-probability entry points into the organization.
Confirm your role qualifies as specialty occupation
Your OPT job at Moffitt must directly relate to your degree field. Use O*NET to verify your target job title's standard educational requirements before applying, so you can demonstrate the connection clearly in your materials and to your DSO when requesting OPT authorization.
Verify Moffitt's E-Verify enrollment before accepting STEM extension
The 24-month STEM OPT extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm Moffitt's active E-Verify status through the E-Verify employer search before your 90-day STEM extension application window opens, not after you've already accepted an offer.
Build your application around Moffitt's grant cycles
Moffitt's research hiring often follows NIH and NCI grant award timelines. Positions open when new funding is secured, typically in late summer and early spring. Aligning your job search to these cycles puts you in front of hiring managers when headcount is actually approved.
Use Migrate Mate to identify Moffitt's H-1B filing history
Before accepting an OPT role, use Migrate Mate to review Moffitt's H-1B filing history by job title. This shows which roles Moffitt has sponsored for H-1B in the past, giving you real data on your long-term sponsorship prospects at the organization.
Negotiate your start date around OPT processing time
USCIS recommends filing your OPT application up to 90 days before your program end date, with processing taking up to five months. Communicate this timeline to Moffitt's HR team early so your start date accounts for EAD receipt without jeopardizing your offer.
