Align your degree field to specific roles
Myriad Genetics evaluates OPT eligibility partly by whether your degree directly supports the role. For positions in bioinformatics or molecular diagnostics, a degree in genetics, computational biology, or biomedical engineering carries more weight than a general science background.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
For STEM OPT extensions, Myriad Genetics must be enrolled in E-Verify at the time of your extension request. Ask your recruiter or HR contact directly during the offer stage, before you've signed anything, so there are no surprises at the 12-month mark.
Target teams with recurring international hiring patterns
Research and development, clinical data science, and laboratory operations at Myriad Genetics have historically hired candidates on OPT. Prioritizing roles within these functions increases your chances of landing with a manager familiar with OPT timelines and documentation requirements.
Search verified OPT-friendly openings on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Myriad Genetics job listings by visa type and see which roles have active OPT hiring history. This saves time compared to applying broadly and asking about sponsorship after the fact, when leverage is lower.
Prepare your EAD and I-20 documents before interviews
Myriad Genetics HR teams typically request your EAD card and I-20 with OPT authorization during onboarding, not just at offer. Having both documents current and accessible speeds up the background check process and signals you're prepared to start without delays.
Raise H-1B transition early in performance conversations
If you're targeting a long-term role, bring up H-1B sponsorship during your six-month review, not when your OPT is expiring. Myriad Genetics has supported H-1B filings for employees who demonstrate value early, and the company needs lead time to engage immigration counsel.
Myriad Genetics OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Myriad Genetics sponsor OPT visas?
Myriad Genetics doesn't sponsor OPT directly, since OPT is work authorization issued by USCIS to eligible F-1 students, not a visa petition filed by an employer. What Myriad Genetics does is hire students who already hold a valid OPT EAD, and the company has a consistent record of doing so across its science and data roles.
Which departments at Myriad Genetics typically hire OPT students?
Bioinformatics, clinical data analysis, laboratory operations, and research and development are the functions where OPT candidates appear most frequently at Myriad Genetics. Roles requiring specialized graduate-level training in genomics or computational biology tend to attract hiring managers already familiar with F-1 employment authorization timelines.
How do I know if a Myriad Genetics role qualifies for STEM OPT extension?
Your role must appear on the official STEM Designated Degree Program List and your degree must match. USCIS determines eligibility based on your field of study and the SOC code assigned to your position. Myriad Genetics must also be enrolled in E-Verify at the time you file for the 24-month extension through your DSO.
How do I find open OPT jobs at Myriad Genetics?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa type, so you can search specifically for Myriad Genetics roles with OPT hiring history rather than applying blindly and raising sponsorship in the interview. This helps you focus your applications on positions where the hiring team already understands OPT authorization and timelines.
Does Myriad Genetics support the transition from OPT to H-1B?
Myriad Genetics has a track record of sponsoring H-1B visas for employees who transition from OPT, particularly in technical and scientific roles. The process involves your employer filing a petition with USCIS, and timing matters since H-1B cap-subject filings open in March each year for an October 1 start date. Raising the transition early with your manager is essential.
How does Myriad Genetics hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Myriad Genetics can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Myriad Genetics's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
