Who We Are
Nuro is a self-driving technology company on a mission to make autonomy accessible to all. Founded in 2016, Nuro is building the world’s most scalable driver, combining cutting-edge AI with automotive-grade hardware. Nuro licenses its core technology, the Nuro Driver™, to support a wide range of applications, from robotaxis and commercial fleets to personally owned vehicles. With technology proven over years of self-driving deployments, Nuro gives the automakers and mobility platforms a clear path to AVs at commercial scale, empowering a safer, richer, and more connected future.
About the Role
We are looking for a meticulous Software Operations Specialist to support quality control, tool testing, and workflow improvement for the internal software systems used in robotics and autonomy development. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role — you will review software outputs, test internal tools, reproduce issues, and document findings that help improve system reliability and team efficiency.
You do not set quality standards or own product decisions. You apply defined criteria consistently, document what you find accurately, and escalate when something is outside your scope. Precision, reproducibility, and consistency matter more than speed.
About the Work
Quality Review of Data Annotation
- Review annotated datasets and labeling outputs for quality and consistency across robotics and autonomy workflows
- Apply defined QC criteria and rubrics to evaluate outputs as pass, fail, or needs review
- Document specific defect types per task — incorrect output, regression, edge-case failure, data inconsistency, tool behavior deviation
- Maintain a clean review log for every item assessed — no undocumented assessments
Tool Testing & Bug Reproduction
- Test internal tools across standard workflows and exception scenarios as directed by the Operations Lead
- Reproduce reported bugs reliably and validate fixes with clear supporting documentation — steps, inputs, expected vs. actual behavior
- Confirm test parameters and scope before each cycle and flag discrepancies
- Track test coverage across tools, workflows, and edge cases
Reporting
- Submit completed QC and testing logs on the agreed cadence
- Flag urgent or high-severity defects same-day — do not wait for the regular report
- Write clear, specific defect notes — exact descriptions of what failed, reproduction steps, and impact, not vague feedback
Escalation & Process Improvement
- Escalate any case where the rubric or test plan is ambiguous or does not cover the scenario — do not guess
- Flag patterns you notice across multiple items — recurring defects, systemic issues, documentation gaps
- Help improve QC processes, testing methods, and internal documentation through structured feedback to the Operations Lead
- Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to communicate findings and support prioritization — all formal feedback routes through the Operations Lead
About You
- 1–3 years of experience in QA, software testing, operations, content review, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated ability to apply rubrics or evaluation criteria consistently across high volumes of work
- High attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability — you catch things others miss and document them precisely
- Excellent written and verbal communication — defect notes are specific, clear, and actionable
- Comfortable learning new tools and working across technical systems
- Able to manage multiple tasks independently in a fast-paced, remote async environment
- Reliable and consistent — this role requires showing up to a regular cadence without prompting
Bonus Points
- Experience with mapping, 3D tools, or visual software
- Familiarity with U.S. roadways and driving behavior
- Experience reviewing outputs across multiple modalities — text, image, sensor data, video
- Exposure to robotics, autonomy, or ML training data production environments
- Bachelor's degree

Target Nuro's core engineering teams first
Nuro's hiring for OPT students clusters heavily in robotics, machine learning, and software engineering. Prioritize roles in perception, autonomy, and systems engineering, where your degree field is most likely to align with the specialty occupation standard Nuro applies when later evaluating H-1B eligibility.
Verify your STEM OPT extension eligibility early
If your degree is in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related STEM field, confirm your program's Classification of Instructional Programs code qualifies for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. USCIS sets that list, and your DSO must authorize the extension before your initial OPT period expires.
Confirm Nuro's E-Verify enrollment before accepting
STEM OPT requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify at the time you file the extension. Before signing an offer, ask Nuro's recruiting or HR team to confirm active E-Verify participation, since enrollment lapses can disqualify an otherwise qualifying employer at the point of filing.
Search Migrate Mate to surface Nuro's visa filing history
Pull Nuro's H-1B and LCA filing records on Migrate Mate before your interview. Knowing which job titles and wage levels Nuro has filed under helps you frame your role and compensation ask around what the company has already certified with DOL, strengthening your case before the conversation starts.
Align your resume to Nuro's specialty occupation language
Nuro evaluates H-1B eligibility using the specialty occupation standard, which requires a direct link between your specific degree field and the role. Reframe your resume bullets to emphasize the technical discipline your degree covers, not just the tasks performed, so the connection reads clearly to a hiring manager and later to USCIS.
Negotiate H-1B sponsorship terms before your OPT expires
Don't wait until your OPT clock is running out to raise H-1B sponsorship. Nuro's H-1B filing timeline must account for the cap registration window in March and a start date of October 1. Start that conversation with your manager at least 12 months before your OPT authorization ends.
Nuro OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Nuro sponsor OPT visas?
Nuro doesn't sponsor OPT directly. OPT is work authorization USCIS grants to eligible F-1 students, not something an employer files for. What Nuro does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD. If you're in a STEM field, Nuro's E-Verify enrollment supports the 24-month STEM OPT extension, which you file through your DSO.
Which departments at Nuro typically hire OPT students?
Nuro's technical teams in robotics, autonomous systems, machine learning, and software engineering are the most active areas for OPT hires. Roles in perception, planning, and hardware engineering align closely with STEM-designated degree programs, making those departments the strongest fit for F-1 students seeking both OPT employment and a future H-1B pathway at the company.
How do I confirm Nuro will support my STEM OPT extension?
Ask Nuro's HR or recruiting team to confirm active E-Verify enrollment before you accept an offer. STEM OPT requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify at the time you file, and your DSO must submit the I-983 training plan with your extension application to USCIS. Get written confirmation from Nuro early in the onboarding process.
What is the timeline for transitioning from OPT to H-1B at Nuro?
H-1B registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. If Nuro selects you and files your petition, USCIS issues a decision typically within a few months under standard processing or faster with premium processing. Start discussions with your manager at least a year before your OPT or STEM OPT expires to leave room for the registration window and any processing delays.
How do I find OPT jobs at Nuro and evaluate my chances?
Search Migrate Mate to see which roles at Nuro have active or historical H-1B and LCA filings, which signals where the company has a track record of sponsoring international talent. Cross-reference those job titles with your degree field using O*NET to confirm the specialty occupation link before applying, so your application targets the roles most likely to lead to long-term sponsorship.
How does Nuro hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Nuro can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Nuro's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
