Target clinical and administrative roles early
Parkland Health's OPT hiring spans nursing support, health informatics, public health, and hospital administration. Prioritize roles where your degree field matches the job description directly, since F-1 OPT authorization requires employment in your field of study.
Verify Parkland's E-Verify enrollment before applying
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm Parkland Health's active enrollment before accepting an offer, so your extension timeline isn't delayed after your initial 12-month OPT period ends.
Align your offer letter to your degree field
Your DSO needs to confirm the role is directly related to your degree before endorsing your OPT authorization. Get a detailed job description from Parkland's HR team and cross-reference it with your degree curriculum to avoid a DSO rejection.
Search Parkland Health listings on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Parkland Health job listings by visa type and role, so you can identify which open positions are realistic for OPT students. Use it to narrow your search before reaching out to Parkland's recruiting team directly.
Research prevailing wages before negotiating your offer
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up wages for your role at Parkland Health's location. This prepares you for salary negotiations and confirms your offer meets DOL wage requirements if Parkland later transitions you to H-1B sponsorship.
Plan your H-1B timeline from your OPT start date
Parkland Health sponsors H-1B visas, but the lottery registration opens each March for an October 1 start. Map backward from your OPT end date to confirm you have enough time for a cap-gap bridge if your H-1B isn't selected in the first cycle.
Parkland Health OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Parkland Health sponsor OPT visas?
Parkland Health hires F-1 students who already hold OPT work authorization granted by USCIS. The employer doesn't file a petition for OPT itself. What Parkland does is hire OPT-authorized candidates across clinical, technical, and administrative roles and, for STEM OPT extensions, maintain E-Verify enrollment as required.
Which departments at Parkland Health typically hire OPT students?
OPT students most commonly find opportunities in health informatics, public health, hospital administration, and clinical support at Parkland Health. Roles that pair well with degrees in nursing, healthcare management, information technology, and public health tend to see the most consistent hiring activity for F-1 graduates.
How do I confirm my role at Parkland Health qualifies for OPT authorization?
Your DSO at your university must verify that your role directly relates to your degree field before endorsing your OPT employment. Request a detailed job description from Parkland Health's HR team, then bring it to your DSO for review. A mismatch between your degree and the role can invalidate your OPT authorization.
What is the timeline for transitioning from OPT to H-1B at Parkland Health?
Parkland Health sponsors H-1B visas, but timing is critical. The annual H-1B lottery registration opens each March, and selected petitions have an October 1 start date. If your OPT expires before October 1, cap-gap protection through USCIS can extend your authorization, but only if your employer files before your OPT end date.
How do I find open OPT roles at Parkland Health?
Migrate Mate lists Parkland Health positions filtered by visa type, so you can identify roles open to OPT candidates without sorting through listings manually. From there, apply directly through Parkland Health's careers portal and flag your F-1 OPT status in your application so recruiters can route you correctly.
How does Parkland Health hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Parkland Health can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Parkland Health's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
