Who Are We?
We at Pine Rest believe in the power of healing and that everyone in our community has the right to expert care for mental health and substance use disorders. We are much more than just the third largest non-profit behavioral health system in the country, our 220-acre main campus, and our network of clinical sites across Michigan. We are a tight-knit community of healers who witness the impact of our life-changing work each day.
Each day, we are closing the gaps in access to care. We are innovating through leading-edge research, testing, programs, and treatment modalities that others replicate across the country. Our services include a state-of-the-art psychiatric urgent care center and a soon-to-be-built pediatric behavioral health center, outpatient, inpatient, partial hospitalization (day programs), assessment and testing, residential, addiction treatment and specialty services such as crisis response, employee assistance programs, forensic psychiatry and psychology, and neuromodulation. On-the-job educational programs for nurses, psychologists, advanced practice providers, psychiatrists, and chaplains are equipping the next generation of care providers.
We are passionate about serving and are honored to be a part of this incredible work.

Align your credentials to clinical role requirements
Pine Rest prioritizes licensed or license-eligible candidates in behavioral health. Before applying, verify your degree maps to the specific role's licensure pathway in Michigan, since state licensing boards often determine whether your OPT authorization satisfies credentialing timelines for clinical positions.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting STEM roles
If your degree qualifies for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, Pine Rest must be enrolled in E-Verify for that extension to be valid. Ask HR directly during the offer stage, not after signing, so you're not caught mid-authorization without a compliant employer on record.
Target departments with documented international hiring history
Behavioral health, psychiatric nursing, and social work teams at Pine Rest have historically supported international candidates through multiple visa pathways. Focusing your applications on these departments improves your odds of landing a supervisor familiar with OPT timelines and documentation requirements.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Pine Rest's visa filing history
Search Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services on Migrate Mate to see which visa types the organization has filed for across roles and departments. This helps you identify which positions have a realistic path beyond OPT and target your application accordingly.
Negotiate your start date around EAD card receipt
Your OPT start date cannot precede the date USCIS prints on your EAD, and USCIS processing currently runs several months. Coordinate your DSO's application timing with Pine Rest's onboarding calendar so your employment start date is realistic given the EAD receipt timeline.
Prepare for the OPT-to-H-1B conversation early
Pine Rest sponsors H-1B visas, so raise the transition question during final interviews, not after you've accepted an offer. Clinical roles often require multi-year commitment, and hiring managers need lead time to engage immigration counsel before the annual H-1B registration window opens each March.
Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services sponsor OPT visas?
Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services hires F-1 students who already hold OPT work authorization, meaning USCIS grants your OPT EAD, not Pine Rest. What Pine Rest provides is employment that keeps your authorization valid. For STEM OPT extensions, Pine Rest must be enrolled in E-Verify, so confirm that enrollment before accepting a STEM-qualifying role.
Which roles at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services typically hire OPT students?
Clinical and behavioral health roles, including psychiatric technicians, social work associates, and mental health counselors, are the most common entry points for OPT students at Pine Rest. Administrative and data-oriented roles in healthcare operations may also be available depending on your degree field and whether the position maps to your authorized OPT classification.
How do I time my OPT application around a Pine Rest offer?
Your DSO must submit the OPT recommendation to USCIS up to 90 days before your program end date, and USCIS processing can take several months. If you're interviewing at Pine Rest before your EAD arrives, negotiate a start date that accounts for that timeline. Never agree to a start date earlier than the date printed on your EAD card.
How do I find OPT jobs currently open at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services?
Migrate Mate lists active OPT-eligible openings at Pine Rest and shows the organization's sponsorship history across visa types, helping you identify roles with a realistic path to long-term sponsorship. Filter by your degree field and OPT authorization category to narrow results to positions your credentials actually support.
Does Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services support the transition from OPT to H-1B?
Pine Rest sponsors H-1B visas, which makes an OPT-to-H-1B transition possible for qualifying employees. Clinical and licensed roles tend to have the strongest alignment with H-1B specialty occupation requirements. Raise the transition question before accepting your offer so Pine Rest's HR team can engage immigration counsel ahead of the March H-1B registration window.
How does Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
