Align your degree to lab or clinical roles
Quest Diagnostics prioritizes OPT hires in roles tied to medical laboratory science, biochemistry, and health informatics. Match your degree field to a specific department when applying, because a direct academic connection strengthens your case for both the OPT hire and a future H-1B transition.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Quest Diagnostics is enrolled, but always verify this during the offer stage, since working a STEM OPT extension without a confirmed E-Verify employer invalidates your authorization under USCIS rules.
Target regional reference labs and diagnostic centers
Quest Diagnostics operates hundreds of patient service centers and reference laboratories nationwide. Applying directly to regional lab roles rather than only corporate positions broadens your options and puts you closer to teams that routinely hire students on OPT for hands-on diagnostic and specimen processing work.
Use Migrate Mate to identify Quest Diagnostics H-1B filing history
Your OPT hire is often the first step toward H-1B sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to review Quest Diagnostics's H-1B Labor Condition Application history by job title and location, so you can evaluate which roles have led to long-term sponsorship before you accept a position.
Submit your I-983 training plan before your start date
For STEM OPT, USCIS requires a signed Form I-983 training plan between you and Quest Diagnostics before you begin work. Don't wait until your first day. Draft the plan with your hiring manager early, since delays in signing can push back your STEM OPT extension effective date.
Network inside Quest Diagnostics's clinical informatics and analytics teams
Healthcare data and clinical informatics roles at Quest Diagnostics have shown consistent OPT hiring activity. Connecting with employees in these teams on professional networks before applying signals genuine interest and gives you insight into which managers actively support the OPT-to-H-1B pipeline within the company.
Quest Diagnostics OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Quest Diagnostics sponsor OPT visas?
Quest Diagnostics does not sponsor OPT directly, since OPT is work authorization USCIS grants to F-1 students, not a visa the employer files. What Quest Diagnostics does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD. The company is enrolled in E-Verify, which makes it eligible to support STEM OPT extensions for qualifying employees.
Which departments at Quest Diagnostics typically hire OPT students?
OPT hires at Quest Diagnostics are most common in laboratory sciences, clinical data analytics, health informatics, and medical technology. Roles in these areas often align with STEM-designated degree programs, which matters if you plan to use your 24-month STEM OPT extension before pursuing H-1B sponsorship through the company.
How do I confirm my STEM OPT extension is valid while working at Quest Diagnostics?
USCIS requires your employer to be E-Verify enrolled for your STEM OPT extension to be valid. Quest Diagnostics meets this requirement. You also need a signed Form I-983 training plan on file with your DSO before your extension start date. Your DSO submits the updated I-20 to SEVIS once both conditions are met.
Does Quest Diagnostics sponsor H-1B visas for OPT employees?
Quest Diagnostics has a documented history of sponsoring H-1B visas, including for employees who originally joined on OPT. The transition typically requires your role to qualify as a specialty occupation. You can review Quest Diagnostics's H-1B Labor Condition Application filing history by job title and location on Migrate Mate before committing to a role.
How do I time my OPT job search at Quest Diagnostics?
USCIS allows you to apply for OPT up to 90 days before your program end date, and your EAD must arrive before you start work. For roles at Quest Diagnostics, apply three to four months before your intended start date. For STEM OPT extensions, file with USCIS at least 90 days before your standard OPT expires to avoid a gap in authorization.
How does Quest Diagnostics hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Quest Diagnostics can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Quest Diagnostics's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
