Target clinical research and allied health roles
Rady Children's Hospital's research institute and allied health departments are among the most active areas for OPT hires. Focus your applications on roles like clinical research coordinator, health informatics analyst, or laboratory scientist, where your degree field aligns directly with job requirements.
Confirm your role qualifies for STEM OPT
Not every healthcare role at Rady qualifies for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Cross-reference your job title's SOC code against the STEM Designated Degree Program list through USCIS before accepting an offer to avoid losing extension eligibility mid-employment.
Verify E-Verify enrollment before signing
STEM OPT requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm Rady Children's Hospital's E-Verify status with your recruiter or HR contact before finalizing your offer letter, since your DSO can't approve the extension without that enrollment.
Search Rady's verified OPT hiring history on Migrate Mate
Pull up Rady Children's Hospital's employer profile on Migrate Mate to review its H-1B filing history by occupation and department. That data tells you which teams have sponsored international employees before, so you can prioritize those hiring managers in your outreach.
Align your salary expectations using OFLC Wage Search
Rady must pay OPT employees the prevailing wage for their role and location once H-1B sponsorship begins. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I and Level II wage for your occupation in San Diego before negotiating, so your offer supports a future H-1B filing.
Time your application around residency and fellowship cycles
Rady Children's Hospital runs hiring for clinical and research roles on academic-year timelines. Apply in the fall for positions starting the following summer or fall, giving HR enough lead time to confirm OPT authorization and plan for an eventual H-1B filing before your EAD expires.
Rady Children's Hospital OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Rady Children's Hospital sponsor OPT visas?
Rady Children's Hospital doesn't sponsor OPT itself. OPT is work authorization that USCIS grants directly to F-1 students. What Rady does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD, and its history of H-1B sponsorship makes it a strong option for OPT students seeking a long-term employer in pediatric healthcare.
Which departments at Rady Children's Hospital typically hire OPT students?
Clinical research, health informatics, laboratory sciences, and administrative support are among the departments at Rady that have historically hired international graduates. Roles tied to STEM-designated degree programs are especially valuable because they may qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension through USCIS.
How do I confirm Rady Children's Hospital supports STEM OPT extension?
Ask your recruiter or HR contact directly whether Rady Children's Hospital is enrolled in E-Verify, which is required for STEM OPT. Your DSO also needs to verify enrollment before approving your extension. You can cross-check your job title's SOC code against the STEM Designated Degree Program list on USCIS.
What is the timeline for transitioning from OPT to H-1B at Rady Children's Hospital?
H-1B registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. If you're on standard 12-month OPT, you'll need your employer to file well before your EAD expires. STEM OPT's 24-month extension gives you more runway. Use Migrate Mate to review Rady's H-1B filing history and assess how actively they sponsor transitions.
How do I find open OPT-friendly roles at Rady Children's Hospital?
Search for roles that match your degree field and check that the position's responsibilities align with what your OPT EAD authorizes. Filtering by department and role type on Migrate Mate helps you identify positions at Rady with documented sponsorship history, which signals a higher likelihood of H-1B support down the line.
How does Rady Children's Hospital hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Rady Children's Hospital can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Rady Children's Hospital's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
