Align your degree to S&P's technical roles
S&P Global's technology and data teams favor candidates whose degree field directly maps to the role. Review O*NET occupation profiles for your target job title and confirm your degree qualifies as a specialty occupation before applying, since a mismatch weakens your eventual H-1B case.
Target fintech and data engineering job postings
S&P Global consistently hires OPT students into quantitative finance, data engineering, and software development tracks. Filter your job search to these verticals rather than generalist business roles, which are less likely to support the specialty occupation standard you'll need for H-1B later.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting STEM roles
Your 24-month STEM OPT extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Ask your S&P Global recruiter to confirm enrollment status during the offer stage, not after you've started. An employer that isn't enrolled can't support a STEM OPT extension, even if the role qualifies.
Use Migrate Mate to verify S&P Global's H-1B filing history
Before investing time in S&P Global's interview process, check Migrate Mate to review the company's H-1B filing history by role and department. This tells you which teams have actively sponsored work visas, so you can prioritize applications where the OPT-to-H-1B pathway has real precedent.
Time your application around S&P's campus recruiting cycle
S&P Global runs structured campus recruiting for summer internships and new graduate roles on a fixed annual timeline. Applications that arrive through these pipelines are reviewed earlier and move faster than open-market submissions, giving you more lead time before your OPT start date.
Get your wage benchmark ready before negotiating your offer
When S&P Global later files your H-1B LCA, DOL requires the offered wage to meet the prevailing wage for your role and location. Run an OFLC Wage Search for your job title before negotiating, so your accepted salary doesn't create a compliance problem at the LCA stage.
S&P Global OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does S&P Global sponsor OPT visas?
S&P Global doesn't sponsor OPT directly, because OPT is work authorization issued by USCIS to the F-1 student, not a petition filed by the employer. What S&P Global does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD, and the company has a track record of later sponsoring H-1B visas for those employees.
Which departments at S&P Global typically hire OPT students?
Technology, data science, quantitative analytics, and software engineering are the departments where OPT students most commonly land roles at S&P Global. These teams work on financial data platforms, market intelligence tools, and risk modeling systems, all of which require the kind of specialized technical degrees that support a future specialty occupation determination.
How do I confirm that S&P Global will support my STEM OPT extension?
Ask your recruiter to confirm that the S&P Global legal entity hiring you is enrolled in E-Verify. STEM OPT extensions require E-Verify participation by the specific employer of record, so confirm this before signing your offer. Your DSO will also need a training plan signed by your S&P Global supervisor before USCIS approves the extension.
What is the typical timeline from OPT hire to H-1B sponsorship at S&P Global?
Most OPT employees who move to H-1B at S&P Global go through the annual H-1B lottery, which opens in March for an October 1 start date. You'd typically need to be working at S&P Global by late fall of the prior year to be included in that cycle. Use Migrate Mate to see which S&P Global teams have filed H-1B petitions in recent years.
How do I stand out when applying to S&P Global as an OPT student?
Apply through S&P Global's campus recruiting pipeline rather than cold applications, since those roles are specifically designed for new graduates and move on a timeline that accommodates OPT start dates. Emphasize technical skills in your application materials that align with financial data systems or quantitative analysis, and be prepared to discuss your work authorization status and OPT end date upfront during screening.
How does S&P Global hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. S&P Global can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check S&P Global's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
