Target roles requiring specific clinical credentials
Summa Health's OPT hires concentrate in roles tied to licensure or certification requirements, like health informatics, medical coding, and clinical support. Identify postings that list your exact credential as a requirement, not just a preference, to stand out in the applicant pool.
Verify E-Verify enrollment before accepting STEM OPT
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm Summa Health's E-Verify status with HR before your STEM extension application, since your DSO must submit the I-983 training plan before USCIS approves the extension.
Align your OPT start date with Summa Health's hiring cycles
Healthcare systems like Summa Health often hire in cohorts tied to fiscal quarters or credentialing timelines. Request your OPT EAD start date to match Summa Health's onboarding windows, since USCIS allows you to request a start date up to 90 days before your program end date.
Search Summa Health's OPT history on Migrate Mate
Before applying, check Migrate Mate to review Summa Health's H-1B filing history by role and department. This tells you which job titles have a real path from OPT to H-1B sponsorship, so you can prioritize applications to teams that have followed through on sponsorship before.
Benchmark your salary using OFLC Wage Search
Summa Health must pay prevailing wages for H-1B positions, and many OPT roles are structured with that transition in mind. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and Ohio location before negotiating your offer.
Prepare your credential evaluation documents early
Summa Health's credentialing and HR teams may require foreign degree evaluations from NACES-accredited agencies before they can confirm OPT eligibility for certain clinical roles. Request your evaluation at least six to eight weeks before your anticipated start date to avoid onboarding delays.
Summa Health OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Summa Health sponsor OPT visas?
Summa Health hires F-1 students who already hold an OPT EAD issued by USCIS. Employers don't sponsor OPT itself. What matters is whether Summa Health is enrolled in E-Verify, which is required if you need the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Confirm E-Verify enrollment with Summa Health's HR team before accepting an offer if STEM OPT applies to you.
Which departments at Summa Health typically hire OPT students?
OPT hiring at Summa Health tends to concentrate in health informatics, clinical operations, medical coding, and administrative support functions. Roles that require a bachelor's degree in a health-related field and align with structured training plans are the strongest fit for OPT students, particularly those pursuing the STEM OPT extension.
How do I approach the OPT hiring process at Summa Health?
Apply through Summa Health's careers portal and note your OPT authorization status in your application. During interviews, be prepared to confirm your EAD validity dates and, if applicable, your STEM designation. Use Migrate Mate to identify which Summa Health roles have historically led to H-1B sponsorship, so your OPT role aligns with a longer-term path at the organization.
How do I know if my role at Summa Health qualifies for STEM OPT?
Your role must appear on the STEM Designated Degree Program List published by the Department of Homeland Security, and your degree must be from a SEVP-certified institution. Check O*NET to confirm your job title's SOC code, then verify that code falls under a qualifying STEM category. Your DSO makes the final determination, not Summa Health.
What's the typical timeline from OPT hire to H-1B sponsorship at Summa Health?
There's no guaranteed timeline, but F-1 students with STEM OPT have up to 36 months of total OPT work authorization, which covers multiple H-1B lottery cycles. Summa Health has a history of H-1B filings in healthcare roles, so OPT employees who perform well can position themselves for sponsorship during the annual H-1B registration window each March.
How does Summa Health hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Summa Health can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Summa Health's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
